Hey, Currently the YetiSim source code is licensed under the GPLv3. This was chosen as an initial license to be overprotective, since the merits of the LGPL had not yet been considered. SimPy is licensed under the LGPL, and the motivation for this is likely to permit users to use the simulation framework without being forced to open the source code to their simulations. Threading Building Blocks (TBB) is licensed under the GPLv2 with a runtime exception. It permits proprietary applications to be built with it, but changes made to TBB itself must be shared. This is the same license used for libc++, see http://gcc.gnu.org/onlinedocs/libstdc++/faq.html#faq.license I don't think YetiSim will grow as a project with the current GPLv3 licensing. I somewhat like the idea of using a GPLv3 with a runtime exception, like TBB's GPLv2 with runtime exception. This would protect the core YetiSim code, while permitting others to develop their own simulations without sharing their code. Opinions? AJ |
