I would like to see two options when you modify a post.
Edit (now Save)
- - post is saved at original position
Update (new feature)
- - post is saved, positioned and announced as new or
updated message
The existing option comes handy for correction typos
and wordings without changing the position of your post
in the board/thread.
The suggested, new option would be useful for on-going
projects, where posts need to be updated over time.
You could then amend cumulating posts such as
literature lists, campaign trackings etc. if you want to
have them in one single post.
In my case, I monitor airliner transfers, charters and
incidents at my forum, where it is useful to keep all
information for say one year in the same post.

This has been "solved" in the upcoming release by making the
edit time the new time.
In other words, if you edit your post, it will be marked as
new. This can be annoying if you are just correcting typos,
but you'll probably do that within the first little while anyway.
This only affects the last post in a topic, however.
