Yes, unfortunately this is up to the ubuntu/ debian packagers.
BTW, the software center entry of Xye says that you should run xye in the command line by typing xye.
It would be optimal if they made a .desktop entry using the icon I include in the source code. I think that in the next version I will provide this .desktop thing and see if that improves the packager's chances of doing this.
