Here's how Text Labels could be improved:

1. Start the default font size at 80 - 100 point so that we can ACTUALLY SEE what we are typing. If you cannot see it, if you make a mistake, with the current editing bug, you cannot change it. You have to delete the label and start all over. Starting at this font size also allows us to actuall SEE WHERE the label is locaed, without zooming in a million times.

2. Allow us to ACTUALL EDIT the text once it has been created and saved. Righ tnow that is impossible.

After really playing with the labeling all morning, here's a better synopsis of the issues with the <ctrl><shift>><x> or DRAW>TEXT label function:</x></shift></ctrl>

1. When a label is created, it's default is 8 pt. For most model railroads, this is way too small to see. Start it out at 30 point, then we can at least SEE it on the layout. From there we can adjust the font size.

2. Only one font available?

3. After a label is created, you can edit the properties, and change the text, then save it, but the changes do not stick. You are stuck with what you originally typed. The only way to fix it is to delete it and start completely over.

4. I am labeling a bunch of objects on the layout. I want to use the same font, color, size for all labels. It's easy to copy and paste a label already created, and just change the text. But I can't do that with the current condition of the label function

5. If I rotate an existing label from horizontal (to any degree), and I move it to another location, it resets back to horizontal during the move.

6. If I rotate an existing label from horizontal to let’s say 90 degrees from horizontal (which would be vertical), the label will sometime flip 180 degrees from its vertical position. It’s in the same place, the words are just turned around 180 degrees.

7. Labels created at an earlier date (earlier version of the XTrackCAD software) are totally uneditable in any way. No rotation, color changes, etc....

8. Sometimes when selecting a label created at an earlier date, the label will flip 180 degrees when selected, and move the text to the left of the select box. . And you cant undo it with a <ctrl> <z> . ANd you cannot edit it. The only option is to delete it and start over.</z></ctrl>

9. Right now, any NEW labels I create, if I rotat them to any angle other than 0 degrees aqnd place them where I want them. They stick. As soon as I try to EDIT them, they revert back to horizontal (zero degrees) and I have to rotate them back.

This label function is really pretty badd

-I want to create labels for locations, structures, etc on my layout. So I figured using DRAW>TEXT menu would be the place to start. I did so, created my text label, and was able to move it to where I wanted it to go. The text was incredibly tiny, so selected it and used the <SHIFT> <?> function to get to the properties. I bumped it up to 80 point so that it could be seen on the layout. No problem so far. If I try to use the properties function by either right clicking and selecting Properties, or by using <SHIFT> <?>, I can edit the text, I can seve the edited text, but once saved, the text reverts back to the original text.
-
-Another SEPERATE issue with older text labels:
-
-I have some older text labels (possibly created in a previous version of XTC) that no matter what I do, when I select them, and hit <SHIFT> <?>, or right click and select Properties - '?' from the right click menu, I get no dialog box anywhere on the screen to edit the text, change font size, etc
-
-I can select and right click on these older labels and ROTATE THEM using that rotate menu.
-
-I can select and right click each one of these older labels and rotate infinitely using the <CTRL> key.
-
-If you'd like for me to create a video illustrating this I can do it, but it's a bit more painful for me to do.

Jon,
at the moment I'm working to fix these bugs. It would help if you could send or attach an older file that shows the problem #7.

Issues 1, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 9 are fixed in GTK3V2MAIN
Issue 2 is a feature request that requires a change to file format, left open
Issues 7 and 8 need an older file as testcase, I can't reproduce it
