New Development

After a few months on inactivity, I have resumed work on X-Shop.

I am about to begin making some important, and possibly incompatible changes. Its not a restart from scratch, in fact it is all evolutionary changes. But for anyone else using xshop, or phpshop, the changes will make it hard to adapt --

However, it is certainly possible to make a database conversion script. Personaly I have no use for this. What I need to know is if anybody is currently using xshop and how important compatibility is for you. Also, if there are a significant number of phpshop users that would like to move to xshop. If there seems to be no demand, I wont bother.... read more

File release

OK, the new file release should be a working shop now. It includes some categories and products in the database and the images that go with them, as well as the images for the templates.

You will also need the phplib distribution.

CVS is up

Prototype website

This is the website as it was with phpshop, and then again with the new rewritten version:

http://www.bbcwireless.com (old phpshop)
http://www.bbcwireless.com/new/ (xshop)

Both are running on the same database.

Work progressing..

Work is steadily progressing. I havent uploaded anything into CVS for two reasons. 1: I havn't gotten the hang of it yet. 2: Many files are being replaced (for instance, all the *.ihtml files are being split into template files and php files) so I dont want to put them in CVS only to delete them later.

I've converted many files into templates using phplib. I have considered using a more advanced templating solution like Smarty but for now I'm sticking with phplib.... read more

planned features

Here's a rough outline of what I want to do:

Convert to phplib templates. XHTML, WML templates.
Search engine friendly URLs
Multiple categories per product.
Better product attribute / sub product system.
One shot products (for example, serial numbers)
Reduce general redundant code across modules.
Product cross referencing.
Product up sale and cross sale.

About X Shop

I've decided to go ahead and rework the phpShop code to add the features I need for a client. The time frame is 3 to 4 months to get this done and I'm being paid full time to work on it.

I welcome any requests, suggestions or offers of help!
