I am not quite sure about my measurements, i was tired, wehen i did them. I thought i made a video and the time to start xowa a second time was 1 second. But i am not able to reproduce it. However i think a realistic time is between 1.2 and 1.5 second to display text and earth. However, this is fast enough.
I think the main bottle neck for this device is, that it is not able to read faster than 22 MB/s from the SD card. Even if the SD card is much faster.

Yup, I think 1 - 2 seconds should be tolerable. Will see how things go for larger pages

Well, it's possible that the XOWA code is probably still bottlenecking earlier on. The total amount of data for simple.wikipedia.org/Earth is probably only about 5 MB max (with images)
FYI: i was able to start XOWA from the SD card with an ext4 file system.
Neat! I've tried FAT32 and it works fine from there
Thanks!

I finished uploading the files for English Wikipedia. Note that these files are just like >the 2015-04 set, except that the max file size is 1.5 GB instead of 3 GB. Android can't >use 3 GB files.
So a 2015-04 set with max file size 1.5GB set does not exist?
However, when you are done, you will have a complete, recent copy of English Wikipedia with images that can fit on a 128 GB SD card.
btw, i am not able to setup a complete English wiki for Android. My newest model Galaxy S4 mini only supports 64 GB SD card

Yup. 2015-04 is 3 GB; 2015-06 is 1.5 GB
Oh, maybe I hav luck and can use this:
I think it should work. I've tried the SanDisk 128 GB card on all three of my listed Samsung devices. I haven't had a problem with any and that includes a Samsung S (Froyo: 2.2)
If you want to do German Wikipedia instead, I should have a build ready in the next week or two. It'll fit on a 64 GB card.
Thanks.

I'm going to give them another week to start again. If they don't, then I'll kick off a build for the 2015-06 German Wiki, though I'd really like something from this month....
I will keep you posted. Thanks.

Sorry! I've been working on some infrastructure issues. I'm trying to redo the GUI to make it more like the official Wikipedia app. In particular, I want to support multiple tabs
What feature(s) do you think would be most needed for a refresh? Depending on what you say, I'll prioritize accordingly.
Thanks!

No need to hurry. I would like to update the XOWA and the wikis for Windows. At the same time i will do it for android and use the German wikis. So I am asking for a new version.
Thank you!

Sorry! I forgot to generate the German wikis for Android. Let me target that for next week. I'll also see if I can add a better search capability to the next Android version. Thanks!

I'm delaying Android dumps for a few weeks. I'm in the midst of rewriting the HTML dumps to be more like Wikimedia dumps. I also am changing tact for the Android GUI and using a Wikipedia-app style GUI. This will be my main priority for the next few weeks, but I probably won't have anything ready till end of November. Hopefully it will be worth the wait.

No worries. You've done more than enough.

Only for interest, is your KitKat able to turn on the ART Java VM (turning off Dalvik)?
Hey, I checked now, and my KitKat phone doesn't have this option. From what I can tell, some Samsung phones have this issue because of the Samsung UI. http://android.stackexchange.com/questions/65095/how-do-i-switch-to-art-runtime-on-my-samsung-galaxy-s4
I'll keep a lookout for this in the future. Thanks!
Galaxy S4 mini (GT-I9195)
dual core
v4.2.2 Jelly Bean
Time to start xowa with clean data and clean cache:
~2 seconds until the earth is displayed
Time at 2nd start:
~0.9 seconds until the earth is displayed
Cool. I'll add this to Help:Android/Alpha list.
Thanks!

What phones work with SanDisk's 128GB MicroSDXC card?

This would be nice!
Yeah, it looks like I was too optimistic. The dumps died again at wikimedia. See https://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/xmldatadumps-l/2015-July/001160.html

Hi,
do you plan to relase another alpha version in the next time? The actual one is 0.1?
