Feature request:
- add a toolbar key to send current selection to an external program
What to do when toolbar key pressed:
* grab the bitmap of current selection (or currently shown canvas area if no selection)
* open a pipe and launch external program
(Note: also needed to add a preference menu configurable string labeled "send to external program"; default value may be something like: "pnmtopng > /tmp/xournal-last-screenshot.png")
* write into that pipe the bitmap contents (proprietary uncompressed dumb format may be sufficient; no need to use PBM or PNG)
This will allow features such as:
- allow some external program to use jotted contents without needing XOJ format parsing
- save screenshot without hassles (and without borders and menus)
- jot something and send it to a "blog this" or "email this" external utility.

This sounds like a feature request, not a patch. Also: I don't think this is the right way to do it. It doesn't sound reasonable to open pipes into a preset external program, the right thing to do I believe is really to have the copy-paste features be able to make the selection data available in bitmap form. (Then you could e.g. copy-paste from xournal into gimp or your blogging interface, or whatever). One should probably also be able to directly save the bitmap to a file instead of just sending it to the clipboard, though it may just clutter the interface and not be so useful.
