I use this a lot on my tablet and it would be great if xournal could just rotate the display and show a pdf sideways. It has been difficult to configure my laptop to rotate the whole screen, but since I mainly would just want to rotate the screen while using xournal, it would be amazing if this could be done.

What difficulties are you having with rotating your whole screen?
    What videocard do you have?

It's added to the to-do list, but there's a technical obstacle - libgnomecanvas doesn't seem to be able to display text items sideways (and there's not much point
to rotating the background if what you write on top of it doesn't get rotated...)

I'm using a tablet pc and I wrote a tiny script to rotate the screen (and the wacom orientation). I then mapped a round button with 4 positions that most tablets have next to the screen to different calls to this script. This way I can rotate the screen without unfolding it. If you are interested, I can send it to you.

If you post more details about the problem you have with your laptop, we may be able to help.
