    Hi!

I have read lots of threads in this forum and have now made my own .Xmodmap file for swedish characters. I used xev to lookup what keycodes the different keys had.. and then I tried to map them..

for example.. I found that the key that on my keyboard has the symbol: , and o with two dots on, had keycode nr 49. So I mapped that key to the correct character in the .Xmodmap and when I run xev and hit the  key it says.. keycode 49.. XClookupString gives "", which is correct, but when I do the same in a xterm window or in emacs (in X) I get an v character instead.. What am I doing wrong.. please help me.. ASAP

    thanks in advance,

You are probably doing nothing wrong. It's xterm's and emacs' problem that don't show your "" correctly. In xterm, you can try "stty -istrip". You can also use xemacs and rxvt, which work better in this respect.

Other long-standing and annoying problems in the same category are that the arrow keys don't work in vi in an xterm, nor the delete or backspace keys in emacs in an xterm. I suppose there are stty configuration options that make all these work, but I haven't been able to find them.
