Afet installing XFree86 and Xaqua-0.5 I lose my ability
to connect via PPP. I have installed macos x and then
Xfree86/Xaqua twice and the problem persists. This may or
may not be a bug, as I may have to reconfigure something
but I can't figure out whats wrong.

    From bug #432698:
No problems with prior releases, but after starting an X
session with 4.1.0, ppp is hosed. Internet Connect
freezes on connect - problem persists on reboot.

    OS: 10.0.3

There are several reports of this problem at forums.macnn.com (OS X General : Aqua + XWindow = heaven). I've asked them to post any details here.

General points: some people link PPP death to Fink or WindowMaker, while others say XFree86 4.1 was sufficient. A clean reinstall of Mac OS X may be required to fix PPP.

I'm bumping up the priority - any bug that requires an OS reinstall to fix is bad :-\

The ppp problem with 4.1.0 only manifests itself after XDarwin is started for the first time, not after merely installing. I only tested it after shutting down my X session though...

Can anyone confirm whether this is still a problem with Mac OS X 10.1? Any more updates on what XDarwin is specifically breaking here?

No reports of this problem for four months. Apparently this was fixed in 10.1. Closing.
