the default targets are still using the Objective-C backend (what is described in the documentation). The C backend is still work-in-progress. Do a grep on this mailing list and you will find some posts that explain how to cross-compile iFireworks using the C backend. We are making good progress on the C backend but it will take some more time to make the switch. I will send an update sometime soon.
