We don't know for sure, but I think the vast majority of users are PVR users. Other apps are program guides and search tools to alert you when something you want to watch is on. Most users are individuals using open source applications, but there probably are business users as well as some folks using commercial products as well (especially in places where devices don't normally include listings). If they wish to restrict to non-commercial and/or Open Source apps, we can mention such "terms of use" in a grabber. We can't enforce it, but "bad guys" would simply change the agent string and use the old grabber anyway. We (as a group) try to be honest and upfront. If they provided another way for disallowed users, that would help.. most people want to be honest if you provide them a way to do so (i.e. downloaded music/tv situation) I would see what their objections are and try to come up with a solution that allows everyone to be happy. I suspect they are blocking by agent string to reduce the load on their web servers. Even though it's been removed from the official XMLTV project, many users will simply change the agent string to IE and bang away. If they can provide a better solution, people will want it and their server load will drop. Robert |
