Well, folks seem to be eager to write XUpdate off: http://lists.xml.org/archives/xml-dev/200504/msg00678.html Personally, I think XUpdate is one of the most successful and useful outputs of XML:DB, and that it's worth some effort to save from any supposed obsolescence. I think we have several problems: 1) The mailings lists are spam-ridden. XUpdate is especially hard his. I can imagine it's driven a lot of folks away. Doesn't SF have some sort of spam control? If not, should we consider a Google group for XUpdate? I'm willing to take on the task to set one up, if need be. 2) Finally wrapping up the specs. I <gulp> volunteer to make a first pass at it, depending on resolution of other points I've brought up. 3) A clear location. Maybe: http://www.xmldatabases.org/xupdate ? Maybe create a separate "xupdate" project on SourceForge? Maybe get xupdate.org? Could anyone help me compile a list of implementations? I'll start by mentioning the ones I know: * 4Suite. http://4suite.org XUpdate command line tool and Python API * xmldiff - XUpdate-based XML diff and merge in Python * XIndice * eXist * Lexus * dbxml * Orbeon * X-Hive * Jaxup (http://klomp.org/jaxup/) * Mobius Mako Command Line Utilities http://projectmobius.osu.edu/docs/makocl.php * RxUpdate (http://rx4rdf.liminalzone.org/RxUpdate), and "enhanced" implementation * XML-XUpdate-LibXML (http://search.cpan.org/~pajas/XML-XUpdate- LibXML-0.5.0/), Perl implementation Thanks. -- Uche Ogbuji Fourthought, Inc. http://uche.ogbuji.net http://fourthought.com http://copia.ogbuji.net http://4Suite.org Use CSS to display XML, part 2 - http://www-128.ibm.com/developerworks/edu/x-dw-x-xmlcss2-i.html XML Output with 4Suite & Amara - http://www.xml.com/pub/a/2005/04/20/py-xml.html Use XSLT to prepare XML for import into OpenOffice Calc - http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/xml/library/x-oocalc/ Schema standardization for top-down semantic transparency - http://www-128.ibm.com/developerworks/xml/library/x-think31.html |

I haven't seen that. My own spam filters never let any through, so I didn't notice all the spam until I looked at the archives. Thanks for installing the controls. > > 3) A clear location. Well, at the very least we should move Kimbro's use cases to the same place as the specs. I'd still like to know if I'm missing any implementations from my list (or if I have any stale info): > > Could anyone help me compile a list of implementations? I think it is probably a case of not enough links to the site in the right= =20 places. I someone could ask Kimbro to add a link to to the current location= =20 of the XML:DB home page (http://xmldb-org.sourceforge.net ) and Xupdate=20 (http://xmldb-org.sourceforge.net/xupdate/) that would be great. > > > > Maybe create a separate "xupdate" project on SourceForge? > > > > > > Maybe get xupdate.org? > > > > If it grows big then yes but I do not see the need for that right now. > > Well, at the very least we should move Kimbro's use cases to the same > place as the specs. Yes, good idea. Since it seems you have some time to devote to this I like = to=20 propose you as committer on the project and also ability to update the web= =20 pages. Please let me know if I have understood you correctly and this is in= =20 line with your ideas. > > I'd still like to know if I'm missing any implementations from my list > > (or if I have any stale info): Ozone also supports XUpdate. > > > Could anyone help me compile a list of implementations? I don't have time, but I'm speaking in the possibly vain hope that I can find a way to carve out a few slices here and there. Go ahead and add me as a committer. SF id is "uche". I'll do what I can. If you contact Kimbro about the links, please also ask about permission to copy his use-cases page. I'm quite sure I can at least muster time to copy those files over. > > I'd still like to know if I'm missing any implementations from my lis= t > > > > (or if I have any stale info): >=20 > Ozone also supports XUpdate.
