There is a "hard disk memory leak" on the start volume with XLD 20170729 (150.3).
I have a relatively small start volume (SSD) and a large disk for data. If I rip a lot of CDs cnsecutively (to the data disk) I get at some point the system warning that the start volume is nearly full. If I then quit XLD the space on the start volume is freed and I can continue. The issue is reproducable. I am on Mac OS 10.9.5.
Simply turn off the option in Preferences>General to "Use temporary folder, then move to the destination." XLD creates an invisable temporary cache folder that does exactly what you describe. Not sure why this is necessary and is the default setting. I just sepcify a different Output Directory and since I'm using iTunes, I enable the "Add encoded files to iTunes if possible. This makes my Output Directory my "temporary folder."
