Hi guys,
Long time since I had to write a bug report.
Normally all is running like a charme.
But now we got a little problem.
In total we are running 9 machines, 4 as iscsi san and 5 as smb nas.
With one installation we got this error from time to time:
ixl_process_adminq: Unable to allocate memory for Admin Queue event!
It occures for ixl0 and ixl1
The nic is attached to a managed switch and using lacp (same constellation with all other installations)
This machine is used as a filebackup server, one other machen is also used as file backup server and the same copy scripts are executed for both machines and the other machine never got this error.
So first we thought it could be a hardware error and we backed up the config and used brand new Server hardware and restored the config for this new machine.
But now same error occure and I'm totally crosseyed.
can't ping the machine anymore, can't get log files and only possible thing to do is coldreset the hardware and after that, all is runnning fine, again for a while.
Hi mate,
The man pages for the IXL driver state that "Using the Admin Queue is only supported on 710 devices with FW version 1.7 or newer."
Could you please check and adjust setting hw.ixl.i2c_access_method ?
Souce: https://www.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi?query=ixl&apropos=0&sektion=4&manpath=FreeBSD+13.1-RELEASE+and+Ports&arch=default&format=html
Thanks for the informations.
I'll give it a try and report back.
Hi
I think I found the Problem, I switched from ixl to ix nics (which are also installed on this hardware).
Then I deactivated the ixl.
Now I sometimes also get a simmilar Problem, but the error is flapping within lacp.
So it seems like a hardware Problem on one of the lacp ports on switch side.
Next week I'll change ports and will observe it again.
Afterwards I'll report back here.
Hi guys,
Sorry for the delay.
So I tested the nics on other switch and all running like a charme, as usual.
So this "problem" is fixed and can be closed.
Have a nice weekend. Doei
