I'm a Fontforge user from years, and never cared before about hinting. Since i know about Xgridfit, i got curious about how to use it efficiently, but most of the examples shown at http://xgridfit.sourceforge.net seems very messy for a newbie viewpoint. I even don't know how fast and comfortably can we get the feedback from the edits we do with Xgridfit - for example, are imagemagick command-line terminal instructions needed in this process, like using 'convert -font typeface.ttf -pointsize 12 label:"Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet" pic.png && eog pic.png' ? My main concert would be how can i do a fast, accuraced and comfortable work using Xgridfit, or even, how can we write a simple step-by-step tutorial can help newbies on doing a productive work, enough to helping both Fontforge and Xgridfit replacing tools like Fontlab. Years ago i started a Fontforge tutorial at http://nitrofurano.linuxkafe.com/fontforge/tutorial/ (still in portuguese, but the i think translation from translate.google can be understood), and i wanted to do the same about hinting, with Xgridfit. Is it possible? Thanks, and all comments about this thread are very welcome. Paulo -- Don't give Microsoft the remote control. Don't use Windows 7. <http://windows7sins.org> |

Sorry to be a bit slow here: my day job has me very busy till about mid-May, so can't do much with Xgridfit. However, when I can I'll look over the tutorial pages with a view to clarifying workflow issues and suggesting ways to get visual feedback. Xgridfit and FontForge can't work together as the graphical hinter in FontLab works with other parts of that program. I've been thinking in a very preliminary way about the possibility of some FF/Python scripting that might make something like that happen, but it's all quite visionary at the moment. You're welcome! I have another suggestion about how great would both xgridfit and fontforge projects being sinergically developed together Anyway, Anton Koovit is helping me with some useful and encourageful basic hinting experience on Xgridfit and Fontforge based on his Fontlab experience, which i hope can be a precious information for newbies like many of the Xgridfits like me http://acgmail.blogspot.com/2010/04/hinting11.html http://acgmail.blogspot.com/2010/04/hinting12.html in my humble viewpoint, i think these blogposts are much more targeted on helping newbies - of course i don't want to unregret thos few xgridfit tutorials were made available from its official webpage, since they have some very important information, but they are hugelly forward away in an abissal learning curve level... :| thanks, Paulo ---- On 4/27/10, Peter Baker <b....@gm...> wrote: > Sorry to be a bit slow here: my day job has me very busy till about > mid-May, so can't do much with Xgridfit.
