configuration option to order panel columns/fields
A lightweight file manager for X

Neither the xfe documentation, nor the xfe config file, nor the preferences interface describe an ability to specify the order the fields/columns in a panel when viewing things as a file list. The default order seems to be 'Name', 'Size', 'Type', ... A means to specify the order of the fields would let users who are, for example, very interested in last modified date but uninterested in file size, put the field of interest in a more prominent location. The configuration file seems like a straightforward place to add this feature.
I second this request. IIRC this feature has been included in previous versions?
Would be nice, but it's not an immediate priority. However, I leave this feature request open.
Thanks for the idea.

3 years later and we still want to be able to configure columns in otherwise awesome file manager :)

Yes, you're right, this is definitely a must have functionality for Xfe.
However, it implies a major rewriting of the FileList class and also, there is no facility in the FOX toolkit to do this, so I'll have to write the stuff.
Anyway, I'll think to a simple way to implement this.
Thanks folks,

In Xfe 2.0, columns in detailed file lists can be shown/hidden and reordered.
