Hello,
I was hoping to set the default editor to vim via xterm. At present I can use gvim :-( On a related note; I like xfi; please keep it.

    Hi,
just use 'xterm -e vim' (without the quotes) as your default editor in Xfe and you will be able to edit files using vim. In this case, you should disable startup notification for xterm (because it doesn't support it) by right clicking on /usr/bin/xterm and checking the "Disable startup notification for this program" option.
You can also use another terminal program, e.g. 'gnome-terminal -e vim'
    Hope this helps,
    RB
