    In the documentation it says:
<<From the Website Details menu, select 'Website Footer'>>

In the Website Details menu I have the following options:
Page List, Page Templates, Blocks, News Items, Upload Files, Upload File Categories, Browse Image Library, Stylesheet Items.  There is no Header or Footer option.  How do I add a Header or Footer?

      Hi there,

First of all, it is possible to do a 'header' and 'footer'. The mechanism used is fairly open ended - by using a combination of 'blocks' and the page templates.

First of all, create two blocks (click on the 'blocks' entry on the website tree). You are presented with a What You See Is What You Get editor to. Name these 'Header' and 'Footer'.

Click on the menus and select 'page templates', and select 'create'. In the page template, you create the standard layout of the web page - enter [[BLOCK:header]] (header is the name that you gave the 'header' block - note case sensitive. Press return to go to the next line, and enter [[PAGETEXT]]. Your page text will go at that position. Press return to go to the next line and enter [[BLOCK:footer]] - (footer is the name of the footer block you created earlier.

Save the template, and go back to the page list.

Create a new page, and make sure you select the page template that you created above.

      - Hopefully all that made sense!

Have a look at the 'User documentation' page on the xdbcms website.

Why did I adopt this more complex method? Well, this blocks method is far more open-ended - any number of block definitions can be created, and appear at any position on the page - you can even specify that they appear at a particular X and Y co-ordinate.

For information, I'm currently working on the ability to save and load a website definition from using XML - which means it will be possible to create sample websites - and eventually theme files - watch this space over the next couple of months...

      Carl.

Any word on the templating ability?
