XChat 2.0.10c
If mode +u is set on a channel, the XChat user list
will not update with new joins \ quits. This gives the
effect of "ghost" users.
A temporary workaround is to type /cycle when you see a
"ghost" user, but this can lead to join throttling.

Channel mode +u is not in the IRC protocol. What is it?
Wow, old bug. But I have trouble getting the user list to update on any channel, whatever the mode.
Never mind, apparently the join handler script autorealname.py (v0.3) was breaking things.
