XBMC Visualization Competition Team Xecuter has kindly offered to donate 10 final versions of the Xecuter 3 modchip to The XboxMediaCenter Project for us to run this Audio Visualization development competition. The purpose of this competition is to develop new Audio Visualization plugins for XBMC and/or extend XBMC's visualisation interface, hopefully it will also encourage more programmers to join the XboxMediaCenter development. The competition starts of right away and will end two months from now. All good entries (winners or not) can be integrated in XBMC, however the Top-10 entries (decided by the XboxMediaCenter Team) will each win one state-of-the-art X3, a top-of-the-line modchip by Xecuter for the Xbox, so new that you can't even buy one yet, thanks Team Xecuter! XBMP/XBMC XStream Contest Bald Bouncer (UK) has kindly donated some nice prizes for us to run this XStream contest. The goal of the contest is for you developers out there to create one platform independent and user-friendly XStream Server, the code must be in C++ and fully open source. The ultimate goal is that when the contest is over we only end up with one, and only one official XStream Server which the XBMP/XBMC projects will retaining ownership of. The contest starts of right away and will come to an end in two months from now. All good entries (winners or not) can/will be integrated in the winning source code base, however the Top-Three entries (decided by the existing XBMP/XBMC team members) will win prizes listed bellow (again, thanks Bald Bouncer) and get an invitation to join the official XStream Development Team. Developers are allowed to enter the contest as a team, (in fact we encourage it), note however that a team entry will count as one entry. Prizes (sponsored by Bald Bouncer): First-Prize, winner can select one of these two alternatives: - Alternative #1 (UK only): Xbox pre-modded Xecuter 2.2 Pro - Alternative #2 (world-wide): 8 x Xecuter 2.3 Lite modchips Second-Prize (world-wide): 5 x Xecuter 2.3 Lite modchips Third-Prize (world-wide): 3 x Xecuter 2.2 Pro modchips Link: www.xboxmediaplayer.com <http://www.xboxmediaplayer.com> and www.xboxmediacenter.com <http://www.xboxmediacenter.com> |

Xbox Media Center, The new (ad)venture XboxMediaCenter (XBMC) is a new free open source (GPL) multimedia player for Microsoft's Xbox. XboxMediaCenter is still in beta stage but can currently be used to play and view most video/audio/picture formats such as MPEG/MPG, VOB, AVI, OGM, DivX, XVID, MP3, OGG, JPG, GIF and many more direct from a CD/DVD in the DVD-ROM or of the Xbox build-in hard disk drive, it can also play files over a network (LAN) from a PC via an "XStream Server" application or from a Windows (SMB) share. It has playlist + slideshow functions and ability to funcion as a full replacement Xbox dashboard. These and more features enables the Xbox running XboxMediaCenter to fully function as a multi-media jukebox. XboxMediaCenter also known as "Xbox Media Center" or simply "XBMC". This project is what the active official Xbox Media Player developers has been working on in secret for the last 4-6 months. This does not mean the Xbox Media Player is dead, official and unofficial developers will still be adding new code and maintain it but the lead developers will be focusing on XBMC. Remember that XBMC and XBMP are hobby projects and are only developed by volunteers in their spare-time for free. New and big differences compared to XboxMediaPlayer: - Entire new fully skinnable GUI engine - Easy switching between skins (if exist) - Dynamic loader for multiple cores/engines - Music database with search feature - Sort files/folders by name, size or date - File Manager for DVD-ROM/HDD/Network - Virtual Keyboard - CDDB and album cover/info lookup - Movie calibration per resolution - UI calibration Things that are not supported in XBMC yet: - DVD-movie playback - Audio Visualization - Matroska file container - Windows DLL's (WMV/WMA 9) - FTP-Server - SHOUTcast - TV-Guide Note! Normal retail Xbox's require a modchip with hacked a BIOS for XboxMediaCenter to run. Official website: www.xboxmediacenter.com Official Mirror: www.xboxmediacenter.de |

For your information, see bellow note from SourceForge regarding CVS checkouts and service <-----Original Message-----> From: SourceForge.net Team Sent: 9/20/2003 2:00:42 PM To: ; Subject: Re: SourceForge.net Service Update: CVS (Email sent to all SourceForge.net project admins) Note From Patrick McGovern, Director SourceForge.net As you may have noticed, CVS is visibly having growing pains. Due to system load, we have had to move anonymous checkouts to our backup server. This has made the code of our 70,000 projects more accessible to project developers. I know this temporary solution has frustrated some of you and I want to apologize for that. This is what we are doing about it: We have 6 new systems that have been installed in our co-location facility. These are very fast Xeon systems, with very fast RAID. These systems will improve performance by a tremendous amount. (As a comparison, our current setup has two systems, one primary and one backup, that are three years old with slow processors and aging disk arrays). In a previous sitewide email we proclaimed that the faster hardware would be online last month (August). This was the goal but we had some unexpected delays. These delays included late hardware delivery, additional electrical requirements in our colo cage, and a host of other issues. That's the bad news. The good news is we are very close to having this fixed. As of right now, we are working around the clock to get these new boxes online to give relief to the performance issues. Our primary CVS server is copying 15 million files to these six new machines. Since this box is also serving CVS checkins and checkouts to the community simultaneously, the data transfer has been slow going. During the last 4 days we have transfered 40% of the data. We expect the rest of the data to be transfered by Thursday of next week, and the new boxes online shortly there after. Hang in there, we will have this behind us in the very near term. |

Hi, I'm not a dev myself but I see no reason why it should not work, so go ahead and take a stap at it ;-) Suggest though that if possible you try to implement it in a section so can be disabled if wanted/needed. PS! The bit you read on xbox-scene.com on VNC server added was not about XBMP but Xbox-Linux. (do not either see a reason why "VNC-server" would be added, but many want a build-in "VNC-client") Best of luck and looking forard to hearing about you pregress in the XBMP forums :) Regards / Gamester17 <-----Original Message-----> From: Jonathan Epstein Sent: 8/15/2003 4:43:25 PM To: xbp...@li... @Xbox Hacker/Fan sites mods; please post news on your site/s as on www.xboxmediaplayer.de <http://www.xboxmediaplayer.de> ): xINSTALL - Xbox Installation Wizard "xINSTALL - Xbox Installation Wizard" is a new Xbox open source (SourceForge) homebrew project. The plan is that "xINSTALL" will become the universal/standard installation & configuration wizard in the Xbox homebrew scene. The wizard should be easy to use for newbies and advanced users of Xbox homebrew software. The project is currently in the concept/recruitment stage and do not have any developers (programmers/coders) as of yet which is why I'm posting this to ask if there any experienced C++/DirectX developers who would like to join the project (or maybe even lead/head), if so please e-mail Gamester17. Hello, I want to control XBMP (by simulating the XBox PAD or remote) from a remote on my PC. I can develop a plugin for Girder (http://www.girder.nl) for sending events over the network to the XBox. I quickly browsed the source for XBMP, but could not see a socket API (or something other useful). Have I overlooked it, or would it be possible for you (the XBMP developers) to implement something I can use? -Tom |

Hi (all), none of the XboxMediaPlayer mailing lists are NOT for requesting support. The XboxMediaPlayer Project members do NOT do e-mail support in any way. For support use the forums on xboxmediaplayer.com and/or #xbplayer on Efnet via IRC. Please make sure you read the manuals + the FAQ page and search the forums before posting. PS! @Elwin, from what it sound like you're trying to run the XBMP source code from your Xbox which is not possible. You need to compile the code first to make it executable (please do NOT e-mail back asking how to compile XBMP).
