I believe that the problem is due to not being able to get to the ISA(or is it the X bus?) bus, and not being able to talk to the tsop when the LPC bus is enabled, to flash the tsop you need to do a software hack, without a lpc modchip, ie 007 or mechassult, and flash the tsop after shorting some jumpers. the ozxchip flashes the lpc mod, you cant get to your tsop by booting it and then pulling off the chip. -f ----- Original Message ----- From: "Phil Goembel" <phi...@wi...> To: <xbo...@li...> Sent: Wednesday, October 29, 2003 5:20 PM Subject: Re: AW: [Xbox-linux] Cromwell booting On Tue, 2003-10-28 at 20:15, Lehner Franz wrote: <snip> > mayb you remember. > > all bioses like ozbios or so > are built out of cromwell > Yes. I've always intended to reformat my xbox drive and use a more standard Linux file system (like ext3). If you understand cromwell, perhaps you could suggest to Chris some reasons why it doesn't boot, and some ideas to fix his friend's system? The only thing I can think of is that either: 1. Linux was not installed on the drive (but it sounds like maybe his friend had it running at one time) or 2. the drive has been corrupted (or at least the boot record). > btw: > flashing like you described is not possible. > I would appreciate very much if you could explain why this method is not possible, and how the flashing could be done. I can't speak for Chris, of course. Does the the problem have something to do with a conflict between the motherboard mods to read and write the TSOP and the mods to use the LPC modchip? The OzXChip has a mechanism to disable the LPC flash and enable the TSOP. Are you saying this only works for reading? I am assuming Chris installed the OzXChip using the advanced installation method, which allows the LPC flash to be disabled and the TSOP to be enabled. The instructions at http://www.xbox-scene.com/articles/tsop.php do not cover the OzXChip. It would be nice if someone could expand those instructions to include the OzXChip. Unless there is a problem with having the instructions on the xbox linux web site, I'd be glad to rewrite the instructions to apply to cromwell instead of a patched MS bios. The only thing I can't provide is the pictures.
