#11 TIVO LIKE FUNCTIONALITY

I have been thinking about this for awhile, it would be
great to be able to use the xbox as a digitial
recording device, there is a package for linux called
Myth TV which I have heard does a great job as a PVR
for linux boxes with a tv tuner, but can the xbox be
used for this. I noticed on the back of the xbox the
video cables say "input/output"..... Is this possible
or in the works?????

MythTV can work in a network enviroment. For example, I
have a desktop file server on my home network that has a PCI
tuner card that handles the encoding of programs and live
tv. This video is sent to the Xbox over the network for
plaback on the Xbox or other computer on the network.

Due too the processor speed of the Xbox you would probably
want a hardware encoder however, there isn't a hardware
encoder available with USB interface and linux support.

A multimedia distribution is currently in the based around
Freevo for playing MP3s, DVDs, etc.

MythTV over the network sounds like a good idea, but do you
need a super zippy computer to encode the video? can you use
the computer while it's encoding?

What is the difference between freevo and MythTV?
Which one do you prefer + why?
