Hi, sorry for the delay but for some reason hte mail did not reach wxcode-users and it had a bad timestamp... Please refer to the maintainer guide (http://wxcode.sf.net/maintguide.php) for more info... I've modified the fix to the pmwiki to make it password-protect _only_ the pages of the "Main" group. Francesco |

Hi all, I've just setup a "smart" script which will monthly find which components have no sources uploaded yet and notify the relative maintainers. I hope this is going to reduce the number of wxCode components which do not have sources (which are 8 currently). Francesco |

You can see my name next to files in there. I'm not sure why i'm getting this warning? Hi You might wanna have a look at wxFlatMenu and wxFlatNoteBook. These might come handy for the IDE since you wanted coolbar. Hi, Really, I was waiting for someone to do it. Actually Hank Schultz ( whschultz@NOSPAM!@cedrus.com ) already wrote wxDNSSD (servicediscovery) a wrapper for Apple's Bonjour SDK implementation of Zeroconf which should work on Windows and Mac. Avahi would work on linux. Could you 2 merge the projects to make a cross-platform wrapper for Zeroconf. I'd probably be the most thankful person for this. Btw, I guess Avahi also emulates Bonjour and Howl, so Hank's work might work on linux with little tweaking. Do check it. looks like NinjaNL found the coolbar site: http://www.planet-berlin-it.de/project/wxCoolBar i didn't think to search for the coolbar because the website was not shown. still no sources, but it says that he is working on it after a long delay. Nuklear |

i am not sure what you are thinking, but i think i see a problem in my description of what it will do and i need to update the project resources accordingly. the interface is going to be cloned. it will be the bloodshed version, but then it should have options to switch to the new wx design. maybe that should be pluggable? (not too far yet) i do not want to clone the internals, that would not be a good thing. i am very new to administrating, this is the idea i have, but i need to do a lot of work to sort it out and present it clearly. i am not very good at presenting my thoughts. i am always surprised that someone does not understand me and i have to think over what i said to help them understand what i am actually thinking. this post was a good thing since it helped me see what i forgot to explain. i wanted to get a website up that looked ok and gave some basic information, but i see it becoming more like ogre or codeblocks some time. i hope it to be soon, but it will not be me who does this. looks like the roadmap is depreciated already. lol! :-) the core of wxDevIDE is to get the people who like dev on windows to use it elsewhere and feel comfortable. i like the interface but i agree that there are problems with some other aspects of it. i partially didn't realize this before you said that, but that was what i was thinking anyway. the interface has really been the primary thing on my mind. at first i though of getting the compiler and other interfacing objects out of the way, but i realized that is not what i wanted to do. nor do i understand it well. so i decided to change the structure of the project to multiple concurrent sub projects, i will need lotsa help to do it though. i can see this is going to come off to a rough start. i need to figure out what is the line between giving dev people the ide on linux etc and where the extendability comes in. i am certain to allow menu options. it will support more project files import and export than dev does. more formated source options. these will be separate plugins so that the ide is not too cluttered in the first place. that is part of the problem with some ides. they are too featured from the beginning. i do not think dev is, but it does lack support in areas. no you did not change my mind, you cleared it up. thank you for saying that.! ;-) Nuklear ps: I'm sorry, I didn't want to upset you. You are probably right so go ahead. you did not upset me, i was trying to clear it up. like i said above, i am poor in explaining myself correctly. (i hope this is not bothering everyone, i will not continue this discussion further here should it go on.) the XP Theme can be turned off easily, in fact it has to be turned on for it to be used. and in a big way, this projects purpose is to be the porting of dev to other platforms. the wxdev project discussed porting and decided that it was not something they should pursue. the bloodshed project has ceased because the admins (and maybe developers?) do not have the time or means of continuing its development. i have time, interest and drive. so i can do it. it is my project so i can do it my way. writing a c++ ide in c++ makes a lot of sense and i took the time to learn wxWidgets. also, being that its purpose is to port the ide, it should have that strict paradigm. and about the choice, i am not doing it for YOUR choice of ide. i am doing it so those who CHOOSE dev can also choose dev when they are in linux, or mac, or wherever. that is why. Why does it have to be the clone "so close as possible". I think most unix/linux users likes to see their programs integrated with they current style. This is kind of the idea of wxWidgets. I fear that when your project is finished other projects like Code:Blocks might be chosen due to its long and and active development. Although I believe Dev-C++ it's a great IDE, projects like Code::Blocks are pretty much getting there. It might be more useful to make some kind of tools that can import projects to each other. And as Francesco said it would be a lot of work! Sorry if my words sound hush, it's just my opinion. Regards, Matías. __________________________________________________ Preguntá. Respondé. Descubrí. ok, i will talk to the author of the colbar component and see what i can get. i will make a component set with the xp theme and post it here after it is working ok. and i am planning on getting other help in the porting project not just to do it alone. so it will not be so bad to do this. thanks for the reply. Hi all, I've just removed "animate" component from wxCode. It made no sense to keep it here now that it has been rewritten (i.e. optimized... by me ;)) and integrated with wx itself. I think also the "hyperlink" component should be removed from wxCode as it's now part of wxWidgets (with a native GTK implementation). Otto, is it ok for you to remove it? Last, there are lots of other components whose authors have not yet committed files to the wxCode CVS/SVN nor released them yet. I'd strongly invite all maintainers to find those 10-15 minutes required to get the required CVS/SVN tools and then commit the code and do the release (the release requires other 10-20 min of time however :)). Very very last: if you have some annoying empty folders in the wxCode CVS repo, please add them to the http://wxcode.sourceforge.net/wiki/pmwiki.php?n=Maintainance.FoldersToRemoveFromCVS list as I'm going to submit a SF request for manually removing them on the server-side to cleanup the CVS repo. Thanks, Francesco |

However I'm a bit pessimistic over the final results (and I talk for personal experience) and wonder if this isn't a "killer" task (i.e. IMHO it involves a _lot_ of work): wxDevC++ gives the idea to be pretty big so why not: - ask wxDevC++ developers to port with your help the IDE to wx, instead of you doing the work alone or - help with other Open Source IDEs, like Code::Blocks which are already wx-based ? >there are a few technical > difficulties of course. ;) > two dealing with the interface are coolbar (not in linux as far as i am > aware) > and xp theme. i am wondering if anyone knows of any project or work > toward that kind of component set has been done for wxWidgets? well, there is the wxCoolbar component hosted here at wxCode :) unfortunately the author has not uploaded any source yet :( maybe you could get in touch with him. > this > would involve new components that wrap the native ones and can be > toggled to overwrite the drawing. > > i am thinking that if not, i would need to build some. i am not sure if > it is better to post that component set should i need to build it here > or on the ide project space. I'm not sure to understand what you mean: however if you develop something wx-based relatively small and self-contained (e.g. a wxCoolbar implementation) you are encouraged to submit it here and then reuse it in your project as 3rd party library... > the project unix is wxdevide > > i think i will ask on the wxWidgets forum too after i see what i get in > response here. sure, good idea.
