Anakreon,
The Wrapper is detecting that there are no non-daemon threads still
running
and deciding that your application is ready to exit. This is exactly
how Java
works when run without the Wrapper. When run without the Wrapper, the JVM
will exit as soon as the last non-daemon thread has completed.
The Wrapper has to do its own thread counting to emulate the way Java
normally works because the Wrapper has its own non-daemon thread running.
When your WrapperListener.start method returns are you sure that you
have
any other threads running? If so verify that they do not have their
daemon flag
set.
You should be getting the same behavior whether you are running as a
service or as a console app. If you can't figure it out, let me know
what the error
is that you are getting when running as a service.
Cheers,
Leif

Hello all. In order to integrate the wrapper to my application I am using the last method, and implemented WrapperListener. Mike, you're awesome. That fixed it. Now that I see it, it makes sense.
But I don't
think I would have come up with that on my own. The changes are checked into
CVS. (Note that SF has the CVS archive mirrored so anon access is to 24 hour
old code.)
A lot has gone into this version. I'll try to get through the testing
and get a
release out sometime this week.
Cheers,
Leif

The sh / bash scripts which are currently shipping were not allowing the application longer than 6 seconds to shutdown cleanly. This was a known bug that has been fixed for the 3.0.4 release. You should be able to grab the new scripts out of CVS and use them. I am pretty sure they will work with 3.0.3 without any problems. If you don't use CVS, you can also get the files from the CVSWeb interface quite easily. http://cvs.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/wrapper/wrapper/src/bin/ Let known whether or not this fixes your problem as I want to make sure any such problems are fixed in the next release. I am using Java Service Wrapper for an application in Linux. I have written a class which implements wrapperlistener and overrides start and stop method. The problem I am facing is that the stop method is not always called. So the app dosen't stop cleanly. The wrapper shutdowns (JVM exist) without calling the stop method. The app is multithreaded. The stop method tries to stop all threads and the method itselt takes time to return. Thanks!!! i use the wrapper on win98 at a client installation. they've been running for 3 months without reporting any problems. i use win98 to schedule the wrapper at system startup. this is the closest thing to an NT-service. when i reboot my machine i see wrapper starting up before the login prompt! the wrapper version i'm running is 3.0 btw, win98 has a cmd bug which prevents from assigning -D variables in .bat files: it doesn't like the equal signs of -Dprop=value so running through the wrapper was the only way i could get my app to work because the -D variables are in wrapper.conf, so win98 .bat files are not used!!! so in the end, short of making code changes, running through the wrapper was the only way i could run my app on win98. sal. -----Original Message----- From: wra...@li... I just got a mail from the SF admins that tell me that the anonymous CVS access is currently against a copy of the CVS tree that is 24 hours old. This was most likely why you were not seeing the newest changes that I had made. The message says that this is temporary, so hopefully anonymous CVS access will soon be connecting to the live CVS archive again soon. Alphonse Bendt wrote: > the CVS does not seem to contain the latest version Sorry about that. Everything in CVS was up to date except the version increment from e to f. That is now checked in as well. It is the same as what you already tested, so nothing else needed.. Thanks for the help. Cheers, Leif |

It the CVS does not seem to contain the latest version so i used your download. both "./build.sh" and "./build.sh release" work fine. regards, alphonse |

Alphonse,
I think I got all of your changes merged in to the latest code.
Could you please
try checking out the latest code from CVS and doing a build. If you
prefer, I
placed a snapshot of the latest code up on my server at:
http://wrapper.tanukisoftware.org/tmp/wrapper_3.0.4f_src_with_doc_src.tar.gz
Please also run "./build.sh release" once and make sure that it
creates a
wrapper_freebsd_3.0.4f.tar.gz file which can be expanded and run. It
should all
be working Ok.
Thanks,
Leif

Sebastian, Ok, I got this implemented. The next version, 2.0.4, will allow you to escape the '#' character by doubling it up. If you want to try this out before the next release, you can check it out from CVS. Cheers, Leif |

There were several project related files that were checked in as Binary files. I changed them over to text files and rechecked in the versions that I normally used. Once again doing a clean checkout, the project appears to be working correctly now. I'm not sure what the problem was... Could you try again using the latest CVS version and let me know the results.
