I don't see anything that points to the wrapper as the cause of this problem. You are attempting to pass a null reference to the ByteArrayInputStream constructor at: org.contego.backup.client.scheduler.SchedulerSet.main(SchedulerSet.java:95) Cheers, Leif region region wrote: > We are having an issue to run the NT service that was successfully installed. > Here is our wrapper.conf content: > ________________________________________________________________________ > wrapper.working.dir=../ > wrapper.java.command=%JAVA_HOME%/bin/java > wrapper.java.mainclass=org.tanukisoftware.wrapper.WrapperSimpleApp > wrapper.java.classpath.1=lib/wrapper.jar > wrapper.java.classpath.2=jars/ > wrapper.java.classpath.3=jars/safestore.jar > wrapper.java.library.path.1=lib > wrapper.app.parameter.1=org.contego.backup.client.scheduler.SchedulerSet > wrapper.console.format=PM > wrapper.console.loglevel=DEBUG > wrapper.console.flush=true > wra...@ap...@ > wrapper.logfile=logs/wrapper.log > wrapper.logfile.format=LPTM > wrapper.logfile.loglevel=DEBUG > wrapper.logfile.maxsize=0 > wrapper.logfile.maxfiles=0 > wrapper.syslog.loglevel=NONE > wrapper.ntservice.name=Scheduler > wrapper.ntservice.displayname=Scheduler Service > wrapper.ntservice.description=Manages scheduled backups > wrapper.ntservice.dependency.1= > wrapper.ntservice.starttype=AUTO_START > wrapper.ntservice.interactive=true > > ________________________________________________________________________ > > > And here is wrapper.log content we're getting when trying to run the main method of Application through the NT Service installed with .bat file: > > ________________________________________________________________________ > > DEBUG | wrapper | 2006/05/03 10:55:05 | Working directory set to: ../ > STATUS | wrapper | 2006/05/03 10:55:05 | --> Wrapper Started as Service > DEBUG | wrapper | 2006/05/03 10:55:05 | Using tick timer. > DEBUG | wrapperp | 2006/05/03 10:55:05 | server listening on port 32000. > STATUS | wrapper | 2006/05/03 10:55:05 | Launching a JVM... > DEBUG | wrapper | 2006/05/03 10:55:05 | command: "C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0_05\bin\java" -Djava.library.path="lib" -classpath "lib/wrapper.jar;jars/;jars/safestore.jar" -Dwrapper.key="gEJ_S_g9KF9ECOnf" -Dwrapper.port=32000 -Dwrapper.jvm.port.min=31000 -Dwrapper.jvm.port.max=31999 -Dwrapper.debug="TRUE" -Dwrapper.pid=3900 -Dwrapper.version="3.2.0" -Dwrapper.native_library="wrapper" -Dwrapper.service="TRUE" -Dwrapper.cpu.timeout="10" -Dwrapper.jvmid=1 org.tanukisoftware.wrapper.WrapperSimpleApp org.contego.backup.client.scheduler.SchedulerSet > DEBUG | wrapper | 2006/05/03 10:55:05 | JVM started (PID=3716) > INFO | jvm 1 | 2006/05/03 10:55:05 | WrapperManager class initialized by thread: main Using classloader: sun.misc.Launcher$AppClassLoader@cc7ad6 > INFO | jvm 1 | 2006/05/03 10:55:05 | Wrapper (Version 3.2.0) http://wrapper.tanukisoftware.org > INFO | jvm 1 | 2006/05/03 10:55:05 | > INFO | jvm 1 | 2006/05/03 10:55:05 | Wrapper Manager: JVM #1 > INFO | jvm 1 | 2006/05/03 10:55:05 | Running a 32-bit JVM. > INFO | jvm 1 | 2006/05/03 10:55:05 | Wrapper Manager: Registering shutdown hook > INFO | jvm 1 | 2006/05/03 10:55:05 | Wrapper Manager: Using wrapper > INFO | jvm 1 | 2006/05/03 10:55:05 | Load native library. Richard, Sorry it doesn't work that way currently. If you want the date to show up, you have to set the the rollmode to DATE. http://wrapper.tanukisoftware.org/doc/english/prop-logfile-rollmode.html You will get exactly one file per day this way. Days with no output will not be created. Cheers, Leif Richard Emberson wrote: > > I set the log file name to: > > wrapper.logfile=../log/app.wrapper.YYYYMMDD-ROLLNUM.log > > and the role mode to: > > wrapper.logfile.rollmode=SIZE_OR_WRAPPER > > What I get is the current log file is called: > > app.wrapper.log > > and all rolled log files are: > > app.wrapper-1.log > app.wrapper-2.log > .... > app.wrapper-35.log > > > which is not what I expected or hoped for. Philip,
Ouch. Sorry no ideas off the top of my head. It looks the like JVM
process is crashing
immediately after it is launched. None of the java-side wrapper code
appears to have
had a chance to initialize.
Try adding the "-verbose" JVM argument. That might tell you a
little more about what
the JVM is trying to do at the time it crashes.
Try setting the account that the wrapper runs as to be the same as
the one you are
logged in as when running in a console.
http://wrapper.tanukisoftware.org/doc/english/prop-ntservice-account.html
Cheers,
Leif

Chandra, I'm not sure of any way to let the Wrapper know that the JVM is paused due to debug mode. You would not want to disable the ping timeout simply because debug was enabled. I should add a note about this or maybe make the Wrapper provide some additional info if the command line contains -Xdebug. Setting wrapper.ping.timeout to 0 should solve the problem for you however. I started my JVM with -Xdebug -Xnoagent -Djava.compiler=NONE -Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,server=y,suspend=n,address=5005 and attached IDE debugger. Blocked a JSP thread on a breakpoint. The wrapper restarts/shuts down (depending on wrapper.disable_restarts=TRUE) the VM. ERROR | wrapper | 2006/05/09 16:35:02 | JVM appears hung: Timed out waiting for signal from JVM. ERROR | wrapper | 2006/05/09 16:35:02 | JVM did not exit on request, terminated STATUS | wrapper | 2006/05/09 16:35:03 | JVM Restarts disabled. Shutting down. STATUS | wrapper | 2006/05/09 16:35:03 | <-- Wrapper Stopped I can set the wrapper.ping.timeout to zero to avoid this. Shouldn't wrapper should detect debug mode? |

Hi, =20 I've just installed Wrapper and am having problems running JBoss as a service. I set the log file name to: wrapper.logfile=../log/app.wrapper.YYYYMMDD-ROLLNUM.log and the role mode to: wrapper.logfile.rollmode=SIZE_OR_WRAPPER What I get is the current log file is called: app.wrapper.log and all rolled log files are: app.wrapper-1.log app.wrapper-2.log .... app.wrapper-35.log which is not what I expected or hoped for. What I would like is for each rolled log file to have the date in its name and if there might happen to be two log files for the given date, then and only then is the rollnumber part of the name. Jeff,
Please post messages like this to the user list rather than to me
directly.
The -Xrs option should NEVER be used with the Wrapper. The log out
problem
is solved by the wrapper in other ways. Using the -Xrs function breaks
some other
features of the wrapper and shouldn't be used.
I don't really work with Swing. Someone on the list may have some
advice though.
One idea is to detect when the user has logged out and then hide any
dialogs from
within the application. When the user logs on again, you can restore
them again as
needed.
Implement the new
org.tanukisoftware.wrapper.event.WrapperEventListener and
register it as follows:
WrapperManager.addWrapperEventListener( listener,
WrapperEventListener.EVENT_FLAG_CONTROL );
It works a little differently from a regular listener for forward
compatibility.
Make sure to read the javadocs.
You can detect logouts by calling the
WrapperManager.getInteractiveUser( false )
method at regular intervals when logged in. If it returns null, the
user logged out.
It is a bit heavy, so don't call it too often.
Cheers,
Leif

In order to close this thread and document this for future generations, here is what I found: Using the wrapper config file, things work as you would expect. Windows wrapper.conf wrapper.java.additional.1=3D-Djava.rmi.server.codebase=3D"ftp:<host>/jar1= .ja r;ftp:<host>/jar2.jar" Linux/AIX wrapper.conf wrapper.java.additional.1=3D-Djava.rmi.server.codebase=3D"ftp:<host>/jar1= .ja r ftp:<host>/jar2.jar" Unfortunatly, I needed to build the property on the fly in the start scripts, and have it passed on the wrapper command line. On windows this not a problem, as the URLs can be separated with ';'.=20 Wrapper.exe <conf file > wrapper.java.additional.1=3D-Djava.rmi.server.codebase=3D"ftp:<host>/jar1= .ja r;ftp:<host>/jar2.jar" On *nix, the space seperated list understandably causes the wrapper to have problems parsing the command line. The solution that worked was to export an environment variable in the startup script that contained the property value, and use the environment variable expansion feature on the wrapper command line export ENV_VAR=3D"\"ftp:<host>/jar1.jar ftp:<host>/jar2.jar\"" wrapper <conf file> wrapper.java.additional.1=3D-Djava.rmi.server.codebase=3D%ENV_VAR% This allowed the wrapper to properly read the command line, and correctly pass the quoted value to the JVM. Hi, Using the ':' on linux is true for all JVM properties that I know of except java.rmi.server.codebase. See http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/guide/rmi/javarmiproperties.html it specifically specifies a space separated list. Though, I have learned from experience that a space separated list will not work on windows, you must use the ';'. Thanks Chris -----Original Message----- From: wra...@li... I see that there are two properties relating to syslog logging: wrapper.syslog.ident and wrapper.syslog.loglevel. But what facility is use= d for syslogging? Is it possible to set a custom facility, or even better specify a remote logging host? We have a loghost that collects syslogs fro= m all our hosts & applications. We'd like to include service wrapper logs in this collection. -Bruce |

VMWare isn't a lovely solution as it would make itself out to be. VMWare
just creates a security layer in which virtual machines can run. What it
doesn't do, is emulate any other processor that you already have. So if you
have a 32bit processor, it can't emulate a 64bit one (but you can go the
other way, as 64bit processors can work in 32bit mode). I use VMWare to run
a local linux install, and give it one of my two processors (well one half
of my HyperThreaded P4). So in VMWare, you can emulate lesser machines, but
never better!
Hope that helps explain why it didn't work for you Leif,
Many thanks,
David Hayes

Michael,
I'll look into VMware for linux versions, but wouldn't I also need
to have a copy of
64-Windows XP? Also would need a newer version of Visual Studio. The
copy I am
using is fairly old. This is all possible, but the purchase of all
that software would need
to have some financial justification.
Just tried installing VMWare and looked at creating a 64-bit guest
OS, but get the
message that "64-bit guest operating systems are not supported by this
host and will
not run.". All well.
Cheers,
Leif

Hi Leif. We had some similiar "issue" with the Bacula project. There's also a Windows client available for that, which needed some enhancements stuff. What 'we' (as in Kern Sibbald) did was to raise some money through donations, which worked out pretty good, iirc. Maybe that's an option for the JSW-Project too? If you put up a list of stuff that's needed by the project, of course with a specific reason appended why the project needs it, there might be even companies that would donate some hardware? Just a bunch of ideas ... :] Greetings, Michael PS: I hope the form of the email is correct (as in text), playing with evolution-2.6 atm ... sorry for any inconvenience. -- I love deadlines, especially the sound they make as they go whooshing by. |
