My application is using Jpoller (http://sourceforge.net/projects/jpoller) to poll a directory for new files. This works fine on it's own, but when I try to use java service wrapper to run it it exits then restarts until wrapper gives up starting the service. Any idea why this fails? se attached wrapper.log sincerely Gaute |

Both loglevels need to be set to INFO:
wrapper.console.loglevel=3DNONE
must be:
wrapper.console.loglevel=3DINFO
Then the Log4J console appender output will appear in the wrapper.log file.

inside the wrapper on linux and I would like to use the trigger mechanism.
But the trigger is only locking for the stuff that is logged by the wrapper
itself.
I thought that if would let log4j do its output to STDOUT it would arrive
in the wrapper logfile, but nothing appears in the wrapper logfile.
Please, can someone tell me how to get the log4j-output to the wrapper log
so I can use the trigger?
Here is my configuration.
wrapper.conf:
...
# Trigger
wrapper.filter.trigger.1=java.lang.OutOfMemoryError
wrapper.filter.action.1=RESTART
#********************************************************************

# Format of output for the log file. (See docs for formats)
wrapper.logfile.format=LPTM
# Log Level for log file output. (See docs for log levels)
wrapper.logfile.loglevel=INFO
# Maximum size that the log file will be allowed to grow to before

# of 0, disables log rolling. May abbreviate with the 'k' (kb) or
# 'm' (mb) suffix. For example: 10m = 10 megabytes.
wrapper.logfile.maxsize=5m

wrapper.logfile.maxfiles=1

Hi all,
=20
We are attempting to modify wrapper so that a SIGHUP can be handled by
java code, I am after some help/suggestions.
=20
Here is what I've done so far:
=20
Modified WrapperManager.java with:
public static final int WRAPPER_CTRL_SIGHUP_EVENT =3D 205;
Recompiled the code, javah added this definition into
org_tanukisoftware_wrapper_WrapperManager.h
=20
Modified wrapper_unix.c with:
- added case in getSignalName(int signo)
- written a handleHangup(int sig_num) function, with
deceleration:
void handleHangup(int sig_num) {
=20
/* Ignore any other signals while in this handler. */
signal(SIGHUP, SIG_IGN);
=20
handleCommon("HUP");
=20
signal(SIGHUP, handleHangup);
}
- Modified wrapperInitialize() to support SIGHUP
=20
Modified wrapperjni_unix.c with:
- added a handleHandup(int sig_num) function:
void handleHangup(int sig_num) {
signal(SIGHUP, handleHangup);
WrapperJNIHandleSignal(org_tanukisoftware_wrapper_WrapperManager_WRAPPER
_CTRL_SIGHUP_EVENT);
}
- Set the above handler for a SIGHUP in the init function
=20
So, I guess I am missing something. I cannot get the SIGHUP in the java
application from the controlEvent(int arg0) method of my class that
implements WrapperListener.
=20
However, when I send a sighup, I get "HUP Trapped" in the log file,
which is being generated by
handleCommon(const char* sigName)
=20
I am not familiar with the architecture and a newbie to wrapper...
Does anyone have any suggestions on where I should be heading towards
from here?
=20
Thanks.
=20
-Dan.

Wrapper on HPUX B 11.11 (32bit) problem loading libwrapper.so
Java VM 1.4.2
Wrapper Version: wrapper-hpux-parisc-32-3.2.0.tag.gz
Upon wrapper startup, the system complains about not being able to load
libwrapper.so. It appears as if there are some GCC libraries that are
expected to be on the machine, possibly due to the dynamic load options used
during build. The output of chatr command is listed below, note the
reference to libgcc_s.sl. I looked through the mailing list and this
appears to be a problem reported by many users. Does anyone have a
libwrapper.so library for HPUX PA-RISC (32 bit) that was either built using
static libraries or built using CC as opposed to gcc compiler with static
libraries.
Any help will be much appreciated. I do not have an ansi CC or gcc
compiler on my machine to run a build and try it myself.

Hello, I am deploying a java application on OS X and am using the servcie wrapper to start, stop, and restart the application as a StartupItem. I am able to use "/sbin/SystemStarter start|stop" with no issues. I also see that the wrapper and the application are started properly when the machine boots up. However, when I login to the system, I now see the java executable on the user dock and when I logout, the system attempts to stop the java executable and times out. The wrapper does not seem to be receiving any signals, the OS complains about not being able to stop by java application using the class path "com....". I tried using "RUN_AS_USER=root", but that did not help. I do not know what else to try - any help would be really appreciated! Thanks, Jim |

Howdy, I'm developing an application that uses Jawin (http://jawinproject.sourceforge.net) to access COM objects. The application runs just fine in console mode, however when I attempt to run it as a service it crashes as soon as I initialize a Jawin object. I already have set wrapper.ntservice.account/password to logon as Admin, and verified the service is running as such, but with no success. Any ideas as to what I'm missing? Thanks very much, Joe Riley |

Tony, Ok. glad you got it working and thanks for getting back. Your original post said that your user had local administrator rights. What did you do differently? Details will help other users with the same problem. Leif,
I found it finally, you have to make the domain user part of the local administrator group on the system for it to work.

Subject: Re: [Wrapper-user] Running Wrapper under user besides LocalSystem
Tony,
I don't have a Windows 2003 system to play with. However, as the
error states,
this is a security problem. Doing a quick google search turns up
several hits.
Search: "An attempt was made to access a socket in a way forbidden by
its access permissions." Windows 2003
This one says that it was caused by the ports already being in use.
I doubt that
all 1000 ports in that range would be use however.
http://benjaminm.net/default.aspx?month=2005-07
Can you look over the google responses and see if anything makes sense.
This feature works great for a lot of users so it is most likely
something about
your system or maybe Windows 2003?
Can any other users verify that this works under Windows 2003?
Cheers,
Leif

Saravanan,
The answer to your problem is spelled out very clearly in the ADVICE
section of this
log output. It is caused by an incorrect main class. Please read the
integration section
of the documentation and then post back if you have any further questions.
I would suggest starting with integration method #1.

Ya-Tim,
Could you please set the wrapper.debug=true property and try again.
If the cause is
not obvious, please post the log for a SINGLE JVM invocation and I'll
try and tell you
what the problem is.
Are you able to get this running in console mode? Are you getting
the problem when
running as a service?
Cheers,
Leif

Tony,
I don't have a Windows 2003 system to play with. However, as the
error states,
this is a security problem. Doing a quick google search turns up
several hits.
Search: "An attempt was made to access a socket in a way forbidden by
its access permissions." Windows 2003
This one says that it was caused by the ports already being in use.
I doubt that
all 1000 ports in that range would be use however.
http://benjaminm.net/default.aspx?month=2005-07
Can you look over the google responses and see if anything makes sense.
This feature works great for a lot of users so it is most likely
something about
your system or maybe Windows 2003?
Can any other users verify that this works under Windows 2003?
Cheers,
Leif

Has anyone tried installing the wrapper to run under a different user besides the local system account? I have configured the wrapper to start up under a user with local administrator rights but the service never starts. It starts up fine when it is started using local system account. I know this used to work for us at one time (a long time ago), I have tried it with the 3.1.2 & 3.2.1 version of the code with no luck. I am installing the service on a Windows2003 SP1 server that has all the latest patches installed. When I try to start the service it gets the following error: STATUS | wrapper | 2006/08/21 14:31:10 | Agilon One Web Application - 8180 (Oracle - DEV8180) removed. Tine,
Please post to the user list.
This is a problem with all windows services. Virtual drives are
only set up when
a user is logged on to a local window. This will never be the case when
services
are started up on system startup.
To make this work, you need to use universal format: //host/share/path
This is a little different than your specific problem. But pretty
much the
same issue.
I'll add something to the docs for the next release. This is the
kind of thing
that prompted me to add the ability to post comments to the pages of the
Wrapper's site.
Cheers,
Leif

Edith,
How are you installing the service? How are you installing the service?
I assume you are using "wrapper.exe -i wrapper.conf" or running the install
batch script that comes with the wrapper?
When you install the service, go into the services control panel and
open
the properties dialog for that service. The executable file path
should look
like this:
D:\wrapper-windows-x86-32-3.2.1\bin\wrapper.exe -s
D:\wrapper-windows-x86-32-3.2.1\conf\wrapper.conf
This means that the log file should be getting written to:
D:\wrapper-windows-x86-32-3.2.1\logs\wrapper.log
From your output below, it does indeed look like your wrapper.conf
file is
never being loaded. The question is of course why? File permissions
still seem
like the post likely cause...but it sounds like you have explored that
thoroughly?
Cheers,
Leif

Brian, The problem is that when you are running with the batch file, a specific library path is most likely not being defined. In such cases, Java defaults to using the value of the PATH environment variable for the library path. In the case of the Wrapper, a library path is usually specified to help the wrapper's java component locate the wrapper.dll. You can solve this is one of two ways. 1) The best way is to locate the dlls that are required and make sure that they are located on the library path by adding appropriate entries: http://wrapper.tanukisoftware.org/doc/english/prop-java-library-path-n.html 2) It is also possible to tell to the wrapper to add the full PATH to the library path. This will give you back the default behavior. http://wrapper.tanukisoftware.org/doc/english/prop-java-library-path-append-system-path.html I suggest using 1) as this will work cleanly on all systems. 2) has the problem that you may accidentally find the incorrect dll if other applications are also adding dlls or modifying the PATH. Hi,
I am attempting to run a java product, openwfe =
(http://www.openwfe.org <http://www.openwfe.org/> ) on Windows 2000 =
Server, and I am having trouble using the Java Service Wrapper.
=20
A colleague and I have found that the product has a very =
long classpath, and that we are currently running the application from =
"C:\ab\"
If I run the application using the batch files that ship =
with the product, it works great.
If I install the services using Java Wrapper, and I launch =
the services, I see the following behavior:
1.) the services will start
2.) I can login to the product
3.) When I try to do anything within the product, I consistently =
receive "LibraryNotFound" Exceptions
=20
I observed the same behavior when I ran the application from =
"C:\abcdefg\", and so I believe that it has something to do with the =
length of the file path and the java classpath.
=20
Can anyone provide any insight into the Java Wrapper on how to get past =
this?
=20
Thanks!
Brian
