I used to use Workrave with Windows, and found it just the thing, but have now switched to Linux and would like to use it with that, but I can't get the blamed thing to work right. For a start, the system tray icon is missing (despite being enabled in Preferences), and if the tiny window is closed, then apparently Workrave closes down altogether (I checked in System Monitor and it's gone). More importantly, the Skip and Postpone buttons do not appear on micro-break window (haven't tried on rest break window but assume that's the same), and they wouldn't be any use if they did, as window is amusingly booby-trapped to prevent you clicking on it. This is AFTER selecting "Show Skip and Postpone buttons" and "No blocking" in Preferences. I'm using Zorin 9 Linux, a variant of Ubuntu Trusty Tahr. I've tried installing from the Ubuntu Software Centre and I've tried installing from https://launchpad.net/~rob-caelers/+archive/ubuntu/workrave?field.series_filter=trusty, didn't seem to make any difference. I contacted the list once before about this, and was told it might be something to do with "gsettings" failing to store settings correctly. I didn't really know what that meant, but when I asked about it on Zorin's forum, somebody told me to install something called dconf which apparently superseded gsettings. I did install dconf ans now have an entry for "dconf settings" in my System Tools Menu, so I had a look at that and found Workrave's settings. They appear to be quite correct and what I set them to, including the Skip and Postpone buttons being enabled. And Workrave wasn't running when I looked at that, so it's not that the settings disappear when it closes. Any ideas? I'd really like to get the dratted thing working, as it used to make all the difference to how much I achieved on the computer! Thanks, A. B. |
