As WORDSMITH has reached the stage when it's no longer easy to maintain and grow the existing code, I've decided to put in to hiatus for the time being.
A lot has changed since I begun working on it. For the PHP/MySQL platform, the leading platform is now Wordpress, and I don't think competing with it is worth the time. Blogs have evolved, are constantly evolving, and it takes a team of dedicated programmers to keep up with it.
Nevertheless, I've got some ideas I'd like to test, and there's no better way than doing it here on Sourceforge. It's going to be a blogging platform again, only this time it will use the fantastic choices offered by the PostgreSQL database. It will be distributed, media-oriented (vlogging, bittorrent) and fast. Stay tuned for the first alpha.

I am not so happy with the current status of Wordsmith code. Long story short, it's a mess. I haven't achieved a number of objectives: multi-database support, separation of blog and administration, flexibility in defining how your blog should look like.
To rectify that, I will be closing the current development tree, and start anew.

The all-in-one weblog package WORDSMITH was released on March 15. After the beta and two RCs, this version is considered production-ready. It sports attractive user interface, WYSIWYG editing with complete source code control, all popular frills like trackbacks, blogroll management and IP banning, and much more! The next major release is already in the works, aimed at the webhosting market.

Wordsmith 1.0 RC1 has been released on 10/29/2003. Many new features have been implemented to enable users focus on their core activities and have all the necessary tools at their disposal. One more RC is expected before the product goes into 1.0 final.

Public Beta of Wordsmith Weblog & Publishing system has been released on Oct 9, 2003. Both end-users and developers are invited to download and test-drive this software. Please report any issues and bugs in the appropriate forum.
