Hi All, Last nights BOF presentation went really well, thanks again to Anjo, Tatsuya and Travis for all your hard work. I'll post up the powerpoint slides of the presentation that Patrice and I gave last night up to the Wonder website (we have a website, we must be a real opensource project now ;). Unfortunately I couldn't find my video camera's power cable so I wasn't able to record the presentation. All the cool localization support was really the star of the show, thanks again! Patrice and I got a chance to chat a bit about the future direction of PW. Here are a few things that we have been tossing around (Anjo has also been in on this discussion off list, so a lot of this comes from his input): 1) Feature freeze on ERExtensions and ERDirectToWeb. Both of these frameworks are huge (too big one might say), so we thought it would be good if they don't get any bigger in terms of new additions until all the documentation is in place, all the remaining bugs have been worked out from the 4.5 -> 5 conversion and all the remaining NetStruxr references have been removed. However we will definitely continue to add full localization support to both the frameworks and select additions that are really needed. Once we have all of the above under control we thought the next direction would be to look at how to potentially divide the frameworks into more manageable chunks (moving the templates and XML stuff out of ERD2W is just one example and this can actually happen pretty soon, dividing up ERX is a bit more of a challenge some ideas are to have an ERXCore for foundation and eof and an ERXWO for all of the components and JavaWOX extensions). 2) Add a Contributions directory (for now under ProjectWonder/Contributions) that will be a clearing house for new sub projects or framework additions. This would be the ideal spot for something like Travis' WOPayPal framework. We could also look at adding two frameworks ERXAdditions and ERD2WAdditions which would be a great spot to continue to add classes, components and features to ERX and ERD2W. Stuff added here would thus get a chance to be looked over and evaluated before moving them into the main frameworks (this last step would obviously only be happening after 1) is done). 3) Move to PBX 2.0 Beta after getting some tarballs of the current frameworks up on the website. We are all using PBX Beta, might as well not stop us from moving the project forward. 4) Completely overhaul the cvs repository structure and add Ant build support. We could potentially look at even moving away from sourceforge if they aren't cooperative. These are all that come to mind right now. What do you think? Regards, Max |
