I do this all over my app with Ajax observe fields. I made a little component that has a wotext and an ajaxobservefield together so I don't have to manually put in all the observe fields. For a richer experience you can put in an Effect.Highlight in the onchange event for the observed field or the onsuccess(?) event for the observe field.
