Found the issue by comparing the config you sent w/mine...
Added:
CONFIG_ACPI
CONFIG_ACPI_HT_ONLY
CONFIG_ACPI_BOOT
to my config I sent last and now it works.  I guess the xeon requires =
it?
Noticed apci flag on the xeon but not on the pIII so that's why the same =
kernel worked on the smp pIII machine I tried.
