Fredrik, Given the level of my contribution (zip at present!) I wasn't = sure if I was qualified to join wix-dev.=20 Rob, what are the criteria for joining wix-dev? Subject: RE: [WiX-users] Anyone write a C++ CA (which doesn't suck!!) = to administer a COM+ Application Subbu, Yea, sounds like a C++ CA is the right thing for you then.. Did you join the wix-dev mailing list yet? If you are interested in contribution, I think that's a good idea.. I'm still waiting for confirmation from Rob that my assignment agreement has arrived, so I = can't share anything yet. But it'll be on the dev mailing list as soon as I receive confirmation. Subject: RE: [WiX-users] Anyone write a C++ CA (which doesn't suck!!) = to administer a COM+ Application Hi Fredrik, Count me in ... happy to assist in any way I can. I was looking at a VBScript CA originally but Rob, Norton Antivirus and WinXP SP2 (in that order) have made me reconsider! We are a product = outfit so i'd like to avoid any unnecessary support calls! Looks like a C++ CA = it is. Thanks for your response. Subject: RE: [WiX-users] Anyone write a C++ CA (which doesn't suck!!) = to administer a COM+ Application Sorry about my slow reflexes.. ^^;; Well, I'm working on such an addition right now, that I hope will be included in the WiX toolset in the future. But it's going to take some = time before it's done. If, however, you would like to help out in any way, I would be more than happy. Event if you are not a C++ guy, you might = still consider helping out with the specs. I only have my limited experience = from the projects I have been involved with. Other people might be using it = in different ways, and might have different requirements on the CA:s. = Again, all help would be appreciated. ^^ I know Rob is allergic to script CA:s, however that's at leas how I currently do it. I wrote pretty much all COM+ setup CA:s at my company = as VBScript CA:s, and so far there have been no serious complications. = They're not pretty and they are not very error tolerant, but they get the job = done for now. I'd say it depends on who is going to use your MSI, if you are targeting a mass market a C++ CA might be a better idea. Regards, Fredrik -----Original Message----- From: wix...@li... Subject: [WiX-users] Anyone write a C++ CA (which doesn't suck!!) to administer a COM+ Application I have a bunch (literally) of VB6 (yeah, I know) DLLs that need to be = added to a COM+ Application during the installation process. In the past I = have been using InstallShield (and InstallScript) to do this. Since VBScript = and JScript CAs suck (there's that word again!) I was wondering if any = kind, knowledgeable soul out there would care to assist. Unfortunately, my = C++ skills ain't all that hot :) TIA ... ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: IT Product Guide on = ITManagersJournal Use IT products in your business?
