Desktop settings don't stay

I can change my desktop settings for the background, and icons and add shortcuts to folders to my desktop but they are lost when I restart my computer. The desktop also refreshes and closes everything when I click the Menu X button in my toolbar. I don't know if mine is the light, normal or fat version it's Winux 11.25.09 with PowerTools v 1.8. How do I fix this?

  This is not standard system behavior. I saw a case years ago where the username contained special characters, causing problems for the user, which was resolved by reinstalling with a normal username. If this isn't the case, I recommend downloading and installing the latest version of the system, as your installation may be corrupted.
