I would suggest you try to download and use the latest experimental version of WillowTree# if you are having an issue where you cannot open a savegame. It has better error messages that may help figuring out what is wrong if it fails to load a savegame.
The experimental version also has the ability to offer to automatically repair at least one type of corruption that can prevent a savegame from loading which was caused by old versions of WT#. Older versions than the current release version of WT# could corrupt your savegame in some instances because they didn't fully understand the data format so I don't recommend using any versions older than the latest release version.
You can email me a copy of your savegame as an attachment to matt911@users.sf.net and I will attempt to manually examine it to see what is corrupt and attempt to repair it by hand if you can't figure anything else out.

If you would like to refer to this comment somewhere else in this project, copy and paste the following link:
i have Borderlands retail copy on PC
i've used Willow tree a few times, mainly to 'undo' the armoury missions
it's managed to open my save fine before but when i tried today it started saying 'can't open save'
i deleted the WT program and re-installed from the downloaded zipfile but the result is the same
i've not made any changes to my save game either
any ideas?
