every time i try to open any xml i get a message saying that an import (i just downloaded this program, i have only a small amount of knowledge of how this works.) plz help

I don't understand what error you are getting. What you wrote was unclear. Make sure you have Microsoft NET Framework 3.5 service pack 1 installed and make sure when you unzipped the archive you extracted the data folder with the data files too. If that doesn't help post the exact text of the error message you are getting and the XML file you are trying to load. Also make sure that what you are trying to import is an XML file not a text data file. If you copy data from gearcalc then it is text not XML so you have to use the import from clipboard or import from text file option.
