Created an sql dump download as Windows 1252 as collation id Latin1_swedish_c1 and imported same to new server. All working BUT all accented characters are messed! Should I have ignored character set and downloaded as utf8?

Probably something to do with the fact that when wikindx was first designed I don't think the MySQL server had support for UTF8 so any non-Latin characters had to be stored as raw unicode.
v4 - not far from release - uses the native support for UTF8/unicode that MySQL servers now have.

That solved it :) why is table collation Latin 1 though?
