Can you be more specific about the obstacles you found ?? Provide some error output? You use the 0.1.0 version or no ? And you read the readme for installation procedure or no ? Also keep in mind that the development of wifiadmin is done on apache2/ PHP 5 enabled web server. PHP5 is backward compatible with PHP4. This decision for PHP4 was taken from the original developers and i think it is based on the fact that some small systems may not support PHP5. So we try not to use new feutures.. -- GMX startet ShortView.de. Hier findest Du Leute mit Deinen Interessen! Jetzt dabei sein: http://www.shortview.de/wasistshortview.php?mc=sv_ext_mf@gmx |

Hello everyone! I started playing with wifiadmin today. I've had a hard time trying to put it to work untill I realised that it's written in PHP4 (I admit, my fault that I oversaw that) . And then it costed me some more time to do the necessary changes in the environment (which I am actually not finished) to put it to work under a box with PHP5. I wonder if there are plans to update it to PHP5, since PHP4 seems to be off the map in most distros. Thank you for making the tool available! Cheers! Ricarso |

Hi I want to add another subnet to my metrix box - Here is the uname from it: Linux "removedbyme" 2.4.29 #2 Sat Feb 5 15:12:16 PST 2005 i586 unknown There currently are ath0, br0, and eth0 on the box ( and L0 of course) The network admin before me set this up, and I am running out of IP space, and want to add another subnet - I can not get the next subnet in the line IE: if I had 192.168.2.X and add 192.168.3.X no problem right? So what I want to do is: 192.168.2.X and add 192.168.45.X ( all numbers made up ) But still not have 192.168.2 through 192.168.42 on the same network - just have 192.168.2 and 192.168.45 on the box. So I think that this box is in a bridged mode as br0 exists - so I do not want to enable eth0 least I loose connectivity to the box. And I do not want to have to re-address every client, to have an ordered subnet - Any cool ideas out there? Thanks in advance! I recently installed wifiadmin and I cant figure out how to get it running. I set the wireless to master but when I go to wireless status it says "This device\'s mode is not supported.". How do I set this up to work? |

Hi all! Has anyone successfully integrated WifiAdmin & Voyage ( http://www.voyage.hk/ ) into something that fits on a 64 MB CF? :-) Regards, Evert |

Hello! root/root doesnt work either. I cant roll back, that doesnt work either... I guess I dont need wifiadmin, but it sure would be nice. Hello! Im hopeing someone can help me out. I have a voyage linux (2.6.8) Wrap = board using thttpd and php and a tweaked version of wifiadmin, (tweaked = by metrix communications = (http://metrix.net/metrix/howto/metrix-pebble.html)) . I get the login = page but connot login with any passwords that I have used, or what is = supposed to be the default (admin:wifiadmin) This is what happened: I originally got the regular distribution of wifiadmin from sourceforge = (0.0.4), and untarred it to /var/www/wifiadmin/, edited the = include/config.php file to turn off mysql and then I http'd to it, and = logged in as the admin with the default password of wifiadmin, there was = a few errors, but otherwise it seemed to "work" i could create users, = etc... I did create a user, but didnt change the admin password (i am = testing in house). =20 well, after a bit of googleing i figured out that it takes some tweaking = to make wifiadmin work with voyage. I had the bright idea to use the = metrix version as it was tweaked for a pebble linux based system, so... I just deleted the /var/www/wifiadmin folder. I then untarred the metrix = version in www-root folder (/var/www/) so it will answer a direct http = request. so far so good. the metrix version creates a password file in = /etc/wifiadmin.passwd. I didnt want to give root permissions to the = httpd user in /etc so I edited to place it in /etc/wifi/wifiadmin.passwd = and placed the correct permissions on the /etc/wifi directory. =20 the page displays correctly but I cannot log into wifiadmin with ANY = user/pass that I know of. I have tried all that are valid on the box, = and default, and those that I had used/created when it DID work the = first time, nothing works. I have even tried to reverse the situation = and remove the tweaked version and tried the 0.0.4 again, and still cant = log in with anything. Is there a way to reset the password, or create (edit) the passwd file = to "create" a user/pass?? Or am I just S.O.L.? any ideas and help will = be great. Thanks all Jerryf |

Hi Thimios, thanks for the prompt answer. I tested with your "str_ireplace.php" (I found it as part of php-compat, too) and I get now only one error message on the "brsettings.php", same as before. I have a bridge that works fine on my wrap. I think that the problem is on the "brsettings.php" page. I wrote a very basic simple (I'm not a good programmer as you guys) "brsettings-gio.php" page that simply show the bridge settings, here attached, and all elements are well shown. Unfortunately I do not know what exactly the Chris' s "brsettings" page should show in addition at the current settings....I use atheros not prism based mPCI card and "wireless security" page still complain because hostap not found in /proc directory. By the way, what is exactly new in this release? Should it write "permanently" the settings so after a reboot you do not have to re-write them? About the str_ireplace not available in php4, (which it seems to be the only php5 function needed), i found this implementation of it in php4. We could either place an "include_once(str_ireplace.php) statement at the top of include/functions.php, or paste the contents of str_ireplace.php in functions.php. I also get the rest of the errors (probably because i don't have a bridge interface). I hope that next week i will have more time to help. Hi Chris, I'm testing on a WRAP board with pebble/Voyage linux and I have some error message. Sorry, this should have gone to the list, so here it is. Maybe i could help if i could test it. I have posted a snapshot tarball for inspection. It's probably something silly, but thanks for looking. http://www.nesser.org/src/wifiadmin-persist-cfg.tar.gz This code requires PHP 5.0 + since it uses a new function call put_file_contents() but that could be removed and a fopen, fwrite, fclose could be put in it's place for an earlier PHP parser. The wifi-admin in this tarball broken because the persistent storage function never finishes. Other than that, enjoy. :) I'm still working on getting my stable work from this past summer into the CVS repository. Friday was my last day of that contract. There seems to be taking quite a bit of time for me to filter out local changes made for our particular system which shouldn't be put into the global repository. Bad design on my part, darn. Hi All, I'm almost finished up persistent configurations, but the kicker is that the web server (thttpd) doesn't seem to like the PHP program I built to run as an abstraction interface to the config storage. How do the PHP scripts execute ls, iwconfig, etc. Is there some path variable set up somewhere in the code or is it dependant on `php.ini` somewhere? I want this program to execute in /alt/ sunny2:/tmp/www/cgi-bin/wifiadmin# ls -la /alt/wlan-config.php -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 5934 Jan 22 21:37 /alt/wlan-config.php It works great from the CLI, but the web server tries to execute it from iwsettings.php and it seems to try and run the command where I set the config value in process 1320 below. But the web server doesn't move on, it just gives up. 1067 root 960 S /usr/sbin/thttpd -p 80 -u root -d /tmp/www -c /cgi-bi 1313 root 2132 S N /usr/bin/php iwsettings.php 1315 root 964 S /usr/sbin/thttpd -p 80 -u root -d /tmp/www -c /cgi-bi 1320 root 2004 S N /usr/bin/php -q /alt/wlan-config.php set nick 'SUNNY3 1321 root 672 R ps aux This is probably a PHP/thttpd issue, but anybody have a suggestion on what I should look for? Hello all, This is just to announce that Christofer Ness has write access to the wifiadmin cvs tree. Christofer has been hacking on wifiadmin for quite a while, we all are looking forward to checking out his work. |

Hi Giorgio, I'm working on getting write access to CVS. Currently I have been stalled at work loaded down with other projects, but I have a basic `brctl` *status* page running. I'm not sure the best way to expose the HostAP configs, but I'll sleep on it and see what I can come up with. Rest assured, whatever I do this summer you'll be able to get a hold of, I just hope it's not a disappointment. Hi Chris, I am watching this list since a month now and I know that you are hacking WIFIADMIN with new features. I wonder if you will post those hacks to the mailing list or not. I will be quite interested in testing those new features. Just a try. Where should HostAP settings go in the layout? I was thinking of making a new page hostapsettings.php which would allow the configuration of hostap for each WIF. Should the interface be so closely tied to the lower level details or is the project trying to have a more process oriented design. For example I'd create a bridging page instead where you could set up wireless bridging and all the configuration options that go with `brctl`. There was a huge comment about confusions on how to read the wireless signal values using some 8 bit integers. Our boxen use Prism cards and report these values. sunny1# cat 00\:06\:25\:ac\:83\:db | grep last_rx: last_rx: silence=-91 dBm signal=-40 dBm rate=2 Mbps > Anyway I think it provides some proportional taste of the signal levels > your clients are getting, either negative or positive. Any insights on a > better way are welcome. I will write a quick fix to check if it is positive or not. The wireless tools code (v27 iwlib.c line 1301) checks the range, which we don't have but it does say this in a comment. * Relative/percent values are always encoded unsigned, between 0 and 255. * Absolute/dBm values are always encoded negative, between -255 and 0. So I will put a check in to see if the negation should take place. Should a text unit text be applied so that the user knows if they are looking at Relative or Absolute values? From what I remember, I substracted 256 because our card readings were positive integers, and since I figured the results should be in dBs, I had to make them negative...So that's what I did. Its just as Rob said, its right to do it in some cards, and it is wrong on others. Anyway I think it provides some proportional taste of the signal levels your clients are getting, either negative or positive. Any insights on a better way are welcome. The noise and signal values are completely arbitrary, and vary from driver to driver. I don't know of any reliable way to know if you have received good values from what the kernel reports. You have to subtract 256 from Cisco cards, but not Prism cards (for example). --Rob |

Why would we subtract 256 from the noise and silence values gathered in get_assoc() ? Was this to make up for a bug in hostap or the firmware? Without subtracting my values look more appropriate - like iwconfig reports them at -43 and -92 respectfully. Sorry to flood the list, is anyone else out there too?
