WideStream changes name to WideStream6 and goes Private? The widestream developers have not made any statements to the contrary. It resembles the time when Azureus stopped being open source and became a private for-profit software.
The new version is no longer hosted at sourceforge. It is not open source since there is no way to get anything other than the most current WideStream6 release. It has also changed its name to WideStream6. The new version does not make any statements about adware, malware, or privacy (phone home). The new website for it is copyrighted to a company in Ireland. The website is also run by a private host provider in Ireland and not by SourceForge's providers.
Please clarify the position of WideStream6 since the above synopsis is true so far with regards to the software.
WideStream is still open source and you can download its sources from SourceForge SVN repository.
The latest version of WideStream called WideStream6 is currently distributed exclusively by Aedgency. WideStream6 is a special edition of WideStream which is not open source but is still a freeware (not adware or shareware) application.
In general it means that for the moment the latest version of WideStream is not open source but is still a freeware. WideStream6 shares ~90% of code base with WideStream. All previous versions of WideStream are open source (and nothing can change that). At the moment there are no plans to release a new open *source version* of WideStream (but this might change in future).
Hope this clarifies a situation.
