the way the message system is (will be) working is that it when a certain event occurs (say creation of the HQ or a building being attacked) that an text message + location is entered in a queue. Currently the message system is not designed to do anything reactive, just to inform the player. so related to sound: have a message every time a new song is played, no problem anything else: not right now. the way you describe it wouldn't be something i intend my message system to do, but maybe if you explain more detailed what exactly is that you need i might be able to rework some things. And yes family did take me some time away from widelands but i'm currently working on modifying my changes to work with the new code layout and hope to submit something soon.
