You mean the scenario when you select a class view on a diagram and use "Add - Attribute"?
It indeed works differently than StarUML opening editor in the Model Explorer instead of inside of the view on the diagram. I will look closer at it. As a workaround you may use the alternative approach when you double click the view element and "Add Attribute/Operation" icon buttons appear. Using those buttons should open an editor directly in the class view.

When add a property or an operation, it should show text editor on property name or operation name, but it's not. (StarUML is ok on this)
