Time flies! WhiteStarUML had been around for over 6 years now yet it was not enough to gain any substantial support and become anything more than a footnote in some articles about StarUML. Quite a deceiving outcome for a program aiming to become a continuation of StarUML.
Eventually, it is more understandable when looking at the manpower behind this project. It did not feel like an open source project at all with all coding handled only by one person barely hearing anything back. Apparently, it is not enough to handle a project of this size. I take the blame on myself, I failed to communicate what this project was and what it expected assuming that with all interest in reliving StarUML the project would grow more naturally. I was wrong and it is needless to say that with all time passed and the landscape changed any momentum for becoming anything relevant is long gone.
The next reflection is that keeping this project active is like sending a false message that it is happy as it is leading to many misunderstandings. But finally, I would prefer to avoid pumping too much drama into it.
On the positive side what was done is done and is not going to evaporate. This project solved a number of issues with StarUML and works just fine in its 64-bit version on Windows 10. So it should remain usable for a while but maybe it is really time to say goodbye to the year 2005 and move on...
yo Janusz! cheer up! I am not a heavy nor usual user of UML (more of a BA) .... but I did learn about starUML about 10 years ago when looking for free and simple apps... then I totally discared it (the old 2005 version as useless, using boUML then which was never too good) ... this year I made the search again and found about your project... what can I tell you... this is great, you moved the project forward into the year 2018, thank you very much.. that is already priceless. and eventhough i have just downloaded it and you initative looks great... a suggestion i will give you is if you could leave a portable version for download.. it is easier to distribute, as i noted the installer requires admin. (I just found an older portable version here softpedia.com/get/PORTABLE-SOFTWARE/Programming/WhiteStarUML-Portable.shtml)... alll the best! and cheer up , your work will not remain unnoticed forever ...
I use Rational Rose 2003 and looking for a replacement. I am using Delphi 10.1 Berlin for modeldriven development in Bold. WhiteStarUML seems to be a nice option.
As I understand it use Devexpress components so not a true opensource project.
But I use Devexpress anyway in other projects.
It would be nice if this project continue developing
