Dear Open Source developer I am doing a research project on "Fun and Software Development" in which I kindly invite you to participate. You will find the online survey under http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/. The questionnaire consists of 53 questions and you will need about 15 minutes to complete it. With the FASD project (Fun and Software Development) we want to define the motivational significance of fun when software developers decide to engage in Open Source projects. What is special about our research project is that a similar survey is planned with software developers in commercial firms. This procedure allows the immediate comparison between the involved individuals and the conditions of production of these two development models. Thus we hope to obtain substantial new insights to the phenomenon of Open Source Development. With many thanks for your participation, Benno Luthiger PS: The results of the survey will be published under http://www.isu.unizh.ch/fuehrung/blprojects/FASD/. We have set up the mailing list fa...@we... for this study. Please see http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/mailinglist_en.html for registration to this mailing list. _______________________________________________________________________ Benno Luthiger Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich 8092 Zurich Mail: benno.luthiger(at)id.ethz.ch _______________________________________________________________________ |

Hi, As it turns out What's Playing 1.4 will be the last version that will be developed by me. I am no longer developing WP. The project is up for grabs. If you are interested in continuing with the development, please contact me. I will be more than happy to hand over the project to you, as long as you assure me that it will remain GPLed. Sorry about all the feature requests and bugs I have not been able to act on. Regards, Srijith ---- -[ Visit my photography @ http://www.pbase.com/srijith/ ]- |

Couple of things. When you created the file on the server, did you FTP it in? If so, did you make sure that it was FTPed in ASCII mode? If you had not FTPed it, it might be better to copy-paste the content of teh file from the sourceforge site to your editor, rather that Save-As process. If all that is good, check to make sure that the Perl binary is present at the path pointed to in the first line of the code. Just do a "whereis perl" to check that. If all that works, make sure that the file you are writing to is actually writable. Set permission to 777 just to check. Let me know how it goes. Ah... looks like you are trying to do this.. http://a.wholelottanothing.org/archives.blah/006625 Well, as such this method will not work with What's Playing. The way MT's Trackback works is that it needs 4 variables ids, blog_name, url and excerpt. Now the first three can be passed on using the "Extra Post Data". However, the way WP work's you cannot send a dynamic valued variable "excerpt". In your case you are trying to pass on Playlistname as excerpt(i.e "excerpt=playlistname"). But WP always send Playlistname as "playlistname=theactualname". So in short, it cannot be done like that. However, if all you are trying to do is show the world what you are listening to in your weblog section, what I suggest, as I did in the previous email is that you use any of the available perl or php script to get the data, dump into a server side file and then just show that file where you want. There are a lot of things that is good in this approach: - Does not involve MT directly. Thus the overload of MT is avoided. - Can be displayed in portions of site that is not MT powered too. - Does not use mySQL database. Simple text files can do. You might want to take a look at http://alex.redford.ca/whatsplaying/whatsplaying.txt Srijith > > Hello all, > > I'm at a total loss. I've been trying to use What's Playing with the Trackback feature on Movable Type to automatically update my blog. > > For URL, I've entered > www.myurl.com/mt/mt-tb.cgi?excerpt=Playlistname > > under Extra Post Data, I have > tb_id=4&blog_name=yr&url=myurl.com > > And I have "Playlist Name" checked under the Tags section. > > What am I missing? > > Thanks. > > Regards, Srijith ---- -[ Visit my photography @ http://www.pbase.com/srijith/ ]- -[ Visit TriNetre @ http://www.srijith.net/trinetre/ ]- |

Does anything get entered into the MT database? I myself haven't used WP and MT. However, I strongly feel that if you are capable and willing to play around with perl a bit, it is better to implement the "What's Playing" section seperately from the MT internals. Just drop all info into a file on the server and in the MT template, just include this file where you want it to appear. Maybe I can help a bit if you can let me know what exactly is your requirements. I ask this because using trakback to put the details is a round about way of doing things :) Srijith > > Hello all, > > I'm at a total loss. Hello all, I'm at a total loss. I've been trying to use What's Playing with the = Trackback feature on Movable Type to automatically update my blog. For URL, I've entered www.myurl.com/mt/mt-tb.cgi?excerpt=3DPlaylistname under Extra Post Data, I have tb_id=3D4&blog_name=3Dyr&url=3Dmyurl.com And I have "Playlist Name" checked under the Tags section. What am I missing? Thanks. |

That is exactly what i'm trying to do. The links on your page are a bit outdated. Netamp only works with Whats Playing 1.1. And the link to neonbubble.com wasn't working last night. Although it is now. Hi Micahel, A bit confused by your email. You are trying to get the "time" data to write into a PNG image. However you are not able to do so? I myself have never coded in PHP. But there are a couple of scripts on the download page (http://whatsplaying.sf.net/downloads.shtml) that uses PHP. Maybe you can get some clue from there? Hello all Im currently using Whats playing 1.4 and I am trying to write a php script that gets the http_post variables and writes them to an image file to use as a signature on forums and other places. Here is my current code <? Header("Content-Type: image/PNG"); if ($_POST['time']) { $string = "Last Update : " . $_POST['time']; } else { $string = "No last Update Info Availiable"; } $im = ImageCreate(500, 25); $red = ImageColorAllocate($im, 255, 0, 0); $black = ImageColorAllocate($im, 0, 0, 0); ImageFill($im, 0, 0, $black); ImageString($im, 4, 5, 5, $string, $re); imagePNG($im); $path = "length.png"; imagePNG($im, $path); ?> I have Whats playing submitting its http_post data to this script. Currently it only pics up the time but I will write the other features when I get the time to work. I'm really confused by this. What have I done wrong? Hi, Version 1.3 of What's Playing has been released. New in this version is threading and templating support. A couple of bugs have also been fixed and the interface has been cleaned up. It is recommended that you upgrade to this version of you have been using v1.1 or v1.2. Believe me, it is better. If you are upgrading from v1.2, you will need to take note of the following: - in the URL and Proxy fields, DO NOT use the "http://" infront of the URLs. - The usernames and passwords for the URL and proxy are now specified in a seperate column and should not be specified with the URL. - Since the HTTP POST structure is unchanged, no change needs to be made on the server side. If you come across any bugs, please file them at http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=82281&atid=565589 Regards, Srijith ---- -[ Visit S2 Photography @ http://photography.suryaonline.org/ ]- -[ Visit TriNetre @ http://srijith.net/trinetre/ ]- |
