Hi Matthias, I haven't encountered any problems with transforming and render the example that you send to me (please, see the attach). I think you are using an old version of FOP. The new WH2FO is *finally* compliant with the REC, so you must use FOP 0.20.3 or greather. Hope this helps, Fabio > -----Original Message----- > From: Matthias Fischer [mailto:m.f...@ab...] > Sent: Wednesday, August 14, 2002 10:36 AM > To: [LIST] WH2FO Developers > Subject: [Wh2fo-devel] [Error] Error in XSL Processor > > > WH2FO 0.31 > FOP 20.2 > > Pippo_Test01.zip > |

Hi, there are some differences, I believe, but I don't have Word 2002, so I haven't try it. It will be interesting to create examples similar to the existing ones = with Word 2002 and compare the HTMLs to see the differences. Somebody is interested to do such a job ? Hi, Enrico gave me a long time ago now, a pre-release of the macro, but I haven't got yet a final version. Hello, I have tried WH2FO and it seems to be exactly what I need. There's one thing I can't get to do, though. I would like to - use Word 2000 for editing a template/stylesheet - link the template to an external (generic) XML data file. For example, I could need to create an invoice template, which I could use with different Client files (XML files). I thought of different ways to do it: -insert some kind of link to a specific tag of the xml file INSIDE WORD. -writing a small application that would edit the xml file generated by WH2FO and changes values in it. This is some kind of merge of the 2 xml files (one generated by wh2fo, one with my client data). -... Can anybody help me with this...? Many thanks, Louis |

Hi Fabio, I've just inquired to sourceforge (before I've read your mail) about how much work it is to support a foundry. I think a lisp macro for Emacs would be good to. - It ist well used on Unix/Linux. I thought about conversion tool which covers all some time earlier too. I think it is a great improvement for all of us. As I have read wh2fo creates a xml and a xsl file while I am generating one file which contains everything. How does the splitting work? Hi Fabio, I think the macro should run on both versions - if not, it wouldn't be to difficult to port it to w2000 and release both. > because WH2FO doesn't work correctly with Word 97 because the format is > different (there are less information inside the produced HTML ...) thats not all... word 97 makes stuff like ... <a><b></a></b> thats why I am using staroffice to export from wordfiles to html. there ist also more layout information in the html code. Could this be a new project on Sourceforge supporting several macros for further word processors like StarOffice, Lotus WordPro, KWord, emacs etc... What about opening a XML Foundry on Sourceforge? I don't know how much work it is to support a Foundry. Have a nice day Enrico -- GMX - Die Kommunikationsplattform im Internet. http://www.gmx.net |

Hi Enrico, thanks for your answer ! I saw your project and I think there are strict communalities with WH2FO. It will be very usefull to have a = macro/VBA that will be able to save the document as HTML and then call one of the converters. Do you think that it will work also under Word 2K ? I ask = this because WH2FO doesn't work correctly with Word 97 because the format is different (there are less information inside the produced HTML ...) As I said before I'm not a VBA guru, but I will happy to test it, if = you like ... The WH2FO-Servlet is still incomplete, waiting for some time from me... your guidelines help me solving the cascade transforming problem. Hi chaps, I have modified the WH2FO parser, now we have a tokenizer parser !!! This will semplify the parsing and will provide more robustness to WH2FO. I'm quite confident now that it will be possible to parse more complex documents, I'd like to find out some good examples that will reproduce documents commonly used (every help welcome), just to show that WH2FO could be used in a production environment (I think Matthias will be happy to have something new to test :-)). Carlos - how your servlet is going ? have you resolved your problems ? Nachev - you still exist ? See the attached new .jar and I will soon update the CVS (just let me have the time to clean the code ....) Fabio |

Hi Carlos, I don't have an handy answer ... but I can suggest you to have a look to the Xalan examples, there are 2 or interest: PIPE SAX2SAX The mail that you point is related to XT and there is also the suggested solution. I noticed that internal code for XT must be changed to read the content of the InputStream: >I've included an extra method on this class which returns the internal PipedInputStream buffer: > public byte[] getStream() { > return buffer; > } and the solution to pull out the null value was: > public char[] getStream() > { > byte[] XToutput = // get buffer from pipedinputstream > return (new String(XToutput).trim().toCharArray()); > } Now if you want to try XT this could be a good starting point. Otherwise I suggest you to send an e-mail to the Xalan people (or look to the archives) because I guess this problem will be well known. I'd like to talk a little bit of what I am currently doing .... I have substantially improved the parser and simplified it. Now I will basically Tockenize the input stream and obtain a sequence of OpenTags, Content and CloseTags. This is a quite big change but I think it's important, at least will resolve the parsing errors and problems (circa 90% of current implementation). As usual I'm in shortage of spare time, so I ask for a vote to put this "unstable" version in the CVS (maybe in a different dir) and try to test and improve all together. So, for me: +1 Fabio |

I'll try to explain myself... My intention is to develop a servlet that extends FopServlet, adding all the addicional steps to obtain a pdf from a doc. And ship it with wh2fo as an example of embedding wh2fo (as FopServlet is). I don't want a heavy xml framework as cocoon, only a lightweight Servlet. The other big limitation is not to use the filesystem for temporal intermediate xml files. So, imagine we have the java.xml.transform.stream.StreamSource's from, for example, Tables.xml and Tables.xsl (wh2fo has done its job) and we want the transformation result in a java.xml.transform.stream.StreamResult that later will feed the org.xml.sax.InputSource. Once here we can instantiate org.apache.fop.apps.Driver(org.xml.sax.InputSource, java.io.OutputStream) from FOP 0.20. In order to do such feeding i use a circular buffer: ... PipedInputStream bufferIn= new PipedInputStream(); PipedOutputStream bufferOut= new PipedOutputStream(bufferIn); Transformer transformer = transformerFactory.newTransformer(xslSource); transformer.transform(xmlSource, new StreamResult(bufferOut)); bufferOut.close(); ... Driver driver = new Driver(new InputSource(bufferIn), out); driver.run(); ... Well theoretically this should be ok, but it hangs Xalan. I have found similar problem reported at: http://www.biglist.com/lists/xsl-list/archives/199911/msg00422.html It seems that the stream returned from the PipedInputStream is null-terminated and this hangs the parser. But i don't know how to strip off the null from a PipedInputStream and later convert it to InputSource (my java weakness arrises here). Could any of you help me on this (assuming that any of you have understood me...) ;-( Thanks!!!!! Carlos. >From: "Giannetti, Fabio" <Fab...@hp...> >To: wh2...@li... >Subject: [Wh2fo-devel] WH2FO Servlet >Date: Fri, 11 Jan 2002 09:03:20 -0000 > >Hi Carlos, > let's go straight to the point 4 >I've tried an example made for FOA (MyBank) that uses a lot of >apply-templates with the document function e.g. ><xsl:apply-templates >select="document('accounts.xml')//accounts/account[1]/number" /> >and I haven't found any problem at all. Hi Nachev, Matthias and Fabio Well, for now, i'm trying to get more and more familiarized with the code, and trying to develop a servlet like FopServlet that helps you to get a pdf from a word2000-html file instead of fo file. The basic steps will be: 1) Get a Word2000-Html ready for dynamic data (below is Fabio's mail at 'wh2...@li...' about this). 2) Get a xml fed up with the data. 3) Get the wh2fo's xml, xsl and AttsXsl with wh2fo from 1) 4) Get the fo with xalan from 2) and 3) 5) Get the pdf with fop from 4) Step 5) is the original FopServlet (at Fop-0.20.1\docs\examples\advanced) Step 2) is just build a dom object with data from a bean or directly from database. Step 1) requires to define some extra styles that will be replaced by means of an extra xslt. Step 3) requires to wrap som classes that prodece that extra xsl and the <xsl:import href...> at the wh2fo original xsl. Step 4) is a simple transformation. Well just step 4), the easier, is putting me in trouble, due to the <xsl:apply-templates select="document('Tables.xml')...>, i think. If the transform process cannot find the file Tables.xml (from the wh2fo examples distribution), it generates an incomplete fo file. If it find it the transform process never end. Any idea? Any suggestions? Thanks, Carlos >You could do even more. If inside Word you define special styles such as >CustomerName, CustomerAddress and so on, then you can replate them from the >XSL-T file generated by WH2FO with the correct: ><xsl:apply-templates select="document('customers.xml') > //customers/customer/personal/name" /> and get the dynamic content. >So when someone is asking the pdf file you could execute the modified > >XSL-T and get an FO file to be rendered using FOP. >Alternatevely you can import an external XSL-T file that "overrides" >the templates that contains the dynamic content expressing an high priority >to the imported ones (a very elegant solution :-)) )... Hi Matthias, I finally made to update the release, so now you can download a distribution file that contains the Install.html file. Hi Carlos, Nachev (you've been very quit until now ....) and Matthias, have you familiarized with the code ? Did you find any comment, problem and so on that you like to discuss ? Have you suggestion of future development and how to proceed. I'm open to any kind of solution that you will suggests. Matthias has been very useful to find out how to improve the documentation and I guess he can also suggest new features. As you can see from the code the most complicated part is the parsing, unfortunately the way in wich Word creates the HTML has forced me to introduce a non linear way to parse the document. I'm trying to understand if it will be possible to use standard HTML parsers like jTidy (that is also a project in SourceForge) or try to work on the parser to made it a little bit more robust and linear. Something that could be improved quite soon is the parsing of the header and footer, so we can add images, horizontal rules and so on .... I'm sorry that the code is not well documented so if you expose me the parts that are particulary unclear I will add some documentation. Fabio |
