Hi guys, I can't reach webmacro.org here - it's resolving but timing out. Eric? Anyway, can somebody give me a bit of clarity on WM recursion - I've forgotten the details. Basically I am recursively including a template to render a tree. However the included template is of course trashing the variables in the "outer" context. Is the solution to this to use #eval or #templet? Something that is part of WM core is preferred - whereby I can pass in certain values but the included template fragment gets its own Context. I'm using my WM JSP taglib code and it's working well "in anger" here (literally - the JSP pissed me off so much and caused so much ugliness to do this recursive rendering, so now we have a JSP/WM hybrid). I can "push" the sensitive variables to temp vars before the include and "pop" them off after but that is ugly indeed. Cheers |

I strongly suggest, if you can, that you move away from singletons as they are a problem for refactoring and later changes to code - except in rare cases. Look at Spring IoC if you haven't... you could use a Spring bean context to gather all your system components (even singletons) into a single bean context, and just put that bean context into the WM context - no 100% pretty yet, but this has made me think that a ContextTool for exposing a Spring BeanContext would be an -excellent- addition to WM. So, I will do it along with the new Spring MVC code and JSP taglib commits. Shall we push 2.0 out now Lane? Keats' function fix can go in 2.1 along with the JSP and Spring bits. Is there is a better way to get access to singletons? I access singletons as $Singleton() which is mapped to the getInstance static method. What I don't want to do is write context tools for each of these or put("singleton", Singleton.getInstance()) in the context. Thanks. Hi, Quick question, this page http://webmacro.org/TemplateProvider says you can use "if you set Servlet22Broker.TemplateLocation to a value in your WebMacro.properties it will look in this directory in your web-app instead of step 1." I check the source and cannot find TemplateLocation being used anywhere. I assume this is replaced by the delegating template provider and its TemplateLoaderPath mechanism. Is that correct? Could someone update the docs then please? Will the delegating template provider be promoted to default provider sometime? Thanks, Lars |

I have verified this bug as well. It also happens if you use "begin" as the start of your macro name. Unfortunately we don't really have a maintainer for the parser these days, so we may have to keep this as a "known bug" unless someone can step up to the plate on this. Keats Nikhil G. Thanks for reporting this bug. I was able to reproduce this behavior using: $HTMLEscape("My string").substring(0, 2) The result was "My string" instead of "My". The substring just got ignored. Very strange. I will investigate. Keats Nikhil G. Macros with names starting with end e.g. end_table are not interpreted. This is a bug. Can someone please fix it. For example, if "xend" is replaced with "end" below it won't work. #macro xend_x($x) { end $x } #xend_x("hi") Thanks. |

In WM 2.0 (release May 14 2005), if I do this: #set $tasks = $PMUtils().getTasks() then $tasks is set to the object that PMUtils() returns and not to the list of tasks I think this is a bug, can some one confirm this? |

Velocity has a much bigger and active user base, and hence more tools and add-ons exist for it already. However Velocity tools that are effectively Java beans should work fine in WebMacro too. 2. WebMacro has much nicer syntax and pluggable directives (i.e. #yourDirective) 3. My gut says WebMacro -may- perform better, but I've not seen any comparisons - now that would be interesting to port Lane's WM performance unit tests to use Velocity :) 4. WebMacro is slightly held back by its Broker mechanism which makes it slightly more difficult to integrate/embed in other applications - but this is not a big deal for normal usage. 5. WebMacro is the original :) I blogged a bit about this the other day: http://www.jroller.com/page/wangjammer5/Weblog -- Marc Palmer Managing Director, AnyWare Ltd. |
