Hi everyone, We are currently using 2.2.3 (still), but just bought and are in the process of testing 3.8. In 2.2.3, here's how I create courses: I use the admin web interface to create the course and type in the instructor's name and contact information. Then, I normally use telnet (in this case, ssh) to switch to the directory /webct/webct/generic/admin and can then call the script ./add_design.pl which assigns my username as the primary designer of the course. I normally type: ./add_design.pl link admin_koff COURSEID where COURSEID is the name of the course on WebCT and admin_koff is the account that I assign as the primary designer of every course. Then I go into the course itself using my primary designer ID and add the faculty member as a shared designer. No problems -- the name of the instructor is still associated with the course in the global database, as well as on users' "myWebCT" screens. The problem: I have tried setting up several test courses in this same way on 3.8 and made it as far as the Web interface, but when I tried to telnet and call up the ./add_design.pl script, I got the following error message: "This utility script is no longer supported by this version of WebCT." Do you have any idea what replaced it? It seems that the script is still in the admin directory on the new server, so I'm not sure why it's there if it doesn't work. If I assign my username (admin_koff) as the primary designer while creating the course through the web interface, the instructor's name gets replaced with my own information and therefore on "myWebCT," it appears that I'm the instructor of the course. I want this to work the same way it did before whereas I am the primary designer, and the instructors are shared designers, but the instructors' info. is in the WebCT database, as well as attached to courses on users' "myWebCT" pages. Any idea how I can get that to work without having to login to each course separately to change the name of the instructor in the settings? We do not want to enable the feature where faculty can assign themselves to a course if they have the correct username and password. This will just confuse them.
