Yes, we use both.  Very handy to have the direct login option when there is issues with the portal, plus our portal has a 1 hour timeout that causes problems for students who access Bb from there and then forget to click back into the portal to keep the session alive.

A quick informal survey:  

If you use a portal with single sign-on to Blackboard, do students/faculty also hvae the option to log in to Blackboard directly (using a Bb login page), thus bypassing the portal?
