Sure .. there is a Clone button at the bottom of the page when editing
a template.

Hmm.. but this isn't available (to me), when I'm editing a Default template.

No, it only exists for non-default templates. Cloning the default makes
no sense, as all other templates inherit from the default anyway ..

I disagree; maybe I want similar but not identical settings?

When cloning the default, it'd be good if the cloned settings used "this specific..: <string>", where the value is copied from the Default, instead of saying "Default" -- since that would be the main reason for cloning it. 

Just my two cents..
