It would be nice if Webmin could do proper mime encoding of 8-bit characters. Right now, it's sending them out "as-is"; which causes some (cosmetic mostly) problems with national language characters. -joho |

Are you referring to translated text in Webmin itself? I didn't know that the current method caused any problems ... could you elaborate further on this? - Jamie |

No, I am referring to, for example, monitor notification messages. If they include 8-bit data, Webmin doesn't notice and simply sends it out "= as is" instead of encoding it (the safest way is probably to always run it = through an encoder and let it decide). If I call a server "=C4rendehantering" (notice the =C4'=E4'), and Webmin ne= eds to notify me that a monitor on it has "gone down" or such, it'll includ= e the server name without hesitation :-) ------------------------- Ursprungligt Meddelande: Fr=E5n: Jamie Cameron <jca...@we...> Till: web...@li... In this particular case, it's not a "domain name" per se, since it's a "fre= e text" label where the user can enter anything s/he wants. -joho ------------------------- Ursprungligt Meddelande: Fr=E5n: Barry <we...@i1...> Till: web...@li... Ah, so you are referring to the emails sent out by Webmin? Apart from the status module (which I'll fix), are there any others in which you've seen this problem? Most don't support any translated or user-substituted text in the message. - Jamie On 28/Apr/2006 03:16 Joaquim Homrighausen wrote .. > > No, I am referring to, for example, monitor notification messages. > > If they include 8-bit data, Webmin doesn't notice and simply sends it out > "as is" instead of encoding it (the safest way is probably to always run > it through an encoder and let it decide). > > If I call a server "=C4rendehantering" (notice the =C4'=E4'), and Webmin needs > to notify me that a monitor on it has "gone down" or such, it'll include > the server name without hesitation :-) > > > ------------------------- > Ursprungligt Meddelande: > Fr=E5n: Jamie Cameron <jca...@we...> > Till: web...@li... > Datum: fredag, 28 april 2006 09:33 > =C4mne: Re: [webmin-l] Message data encoding > > On 28/Apr/2006 02:12 Joaquim Homrighausen wrote .. > > > > > It would be nice if Webmin could do proper mime encoding of 8-bit characters. > > Right now, it's sending them out "as-is"; which causes some (cosmetic > mostly) > > problems with national language characters. > > Are you referring to translated text in Webmin itself? Yes, that's what I'm referring to :-) No, I haven't seen this anywhere else. And I guess that it won't be a probl= em unless the user is allowed to somehow enter text to describe something o= r otherwise supply parameters. -joho ------------------------- Ursprungligt Meddelande: Fr=E5n: Jamie Cameron <jca...@we...> Till: web...@li...
