I tried to update from 1.994 to 1.996, but it stalled at “running post install scripts”, and now I cannot access Webmin at all. What do I do? I used Webmin exclusively to administer my server - I do not know any other way to do it (upgrades never failed previously). |

If you can SSH in as root, you should be able to re-start Webmin by running /etc/webmin/start Which Linux distribution and version are you running there though? |

I am on an old server running FreeBSD 10.1. Luckily my hosting provider was able to get it started using the service webmin start command. I will need to set up SSH access for myself in the future (as I have Webmin I’ve never felt I needed this before). > On 6 Jul 2022, at 3:29 PM, Jamie Cameron <jca...@we...> wrote: > > On 05/Jul/2022 20:26 Lee J. <lj...@ne...> wrote .. >> I tried to update from 1.994 to 1.996, but it stalled at “running post install >> scripts”, and now I cannot access Webmin at all. Hmm ... this could be an issue specific to older FreeBSD versions. I'll see if I can re-produce it. On 05/Jul/2022 22:33 Lee J. <lj...@ne...> wrote .. > I am on an old server running FreeBSD 10.1. Actually, updates have not failed for me before, and it seems this update was successful too - it just failed to restart when it was finished. Anyway, the main reason I use Webmin is because the command line scares the hell out of me. Is there a safe way to update via the Webmin interface? (Including running a command in the command shell module, which I can do.) Until now I have been doing it via the System Information screen, but I see there is at least one alternative method in the Webmin Configuration module. > On 7 Jul 2022, at 3:28 PM, David Overton <da...@sy...> wrote: > > It's typical for the FreeBSD updates to fail. In relation to this: because my OS is no longer supported, I have to delete the software packages modules, as they initiate a fetch operation which never ends and takes up a lot of processor cycles. When I update though, the are restored. Is there a way for the update mechanism to respect the current module configuration? I also wonder if this was related to the problem I had. > On 7 Jul 2022, at 3:04 PM, Jamie Cameron <jca...@we...> wrote: > > Hmm ... this could be an issue specific to older FreeBSD versions.
